Wwhatever Happened to Baby Jane Posted: 31 Oct 2010 05:04 AM PDT bette davis, what ever happened to baby jane, hocus pocus, halloween films, hocus pocus cast What artistic mayhem transpires when you pair up a cult classic film with a legendary ballet? A few good turns on the dance floor, dark humor, and a sadistic premise that knocks you over the head too many times (just like the hammer in the final act). But subtlety rarely figures into the repertoire of choreographer Myron Johnson and Ballet of the Dolls. "Whatever Happened to ... Swan Lake?" carries on the troupe's commitment to boldly celebrating the irreverent. And there's plenty of it in this remount of a 1991 work. Joan Crawford and Bette Davis set the standard for scenery-chewing performance in 1962's "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" Johnson transfers their roles to a pair of ballerinas: Blanche White (Stephanie Karr-Smith) and her sister, Jane (Stephanie Fellner). Blanche is beloved by all and wins the lead in "Swan Lake." Jane is overlooked, even failing in her attempt to seduce company director Serge (Robert Skafte). When Blanche suffers a suspicious career-ending accident, Jane breaks into a sinister smile and bows to an audience that she is certain will finally be hers alone. She evolves into a deluxe diva and steals her sister's former partner, Siegfried (Michael DeLeon). But the wheelchair-bound Blanche remains everyone's favorite, and Jane is no longer just jealous, she's brutally abusive toward her sister. |
Halloween Games Kids | Halloween Games Online | Halloween Greetings and Cards Posted: 31 Oct 2010 05:02 AM PDT halloween games, halloween games online, halloween games for girls, halloween jokes for kids, halloween cards, halloween celebrations In the front yard of Michele Laramie's home in Madison Heights, you'll find typical Halloween decorations -- pumpkins, a graveyard, a ghost. And tonight, her 3-year-old daughter will dress up and trick-or-treat as a witch. Witches, ghosts and graveyards -- not exactly angelic images. But many people are like Laramie, who is Catholic. They will spend this morning in church and then dabble in the traditional displays of Halloween spirit this evening. It's the way it goes when the holiday for ghouls and goblins falls on a Sunday, the holy day for Christians. Laila Jones, 3, of Farmington Hills waits to go into the haunted halls of St. Paul Lutheran Church. The Rev. Jeremy Schultz, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Royal Oak, says that's probably OK. Unless churchgoers take celebrations to a twisted extreme, he sees little harm in traditions like trick-or-treating or dressing up in costume. "Yes, it's true, there are historical roots of Halloween that we would certainly not endorse as Christians," Schultz says. "But what Halloween is today and the practice of trick-or-treating and dressing up, it is really more along the lines of pageantry and fun." As Laramie says: "It's something that I think is meant to be fun. I'm sure there are those people who don't like it. But many do." A consistent message Those who don't observe Halloween customs for religious reasons may be in the minority, but they are serious. The Rev. Bryan C. Moore, pastor of Historic Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church on Detroit's west side, hopes members skip the trick-or-treating tonight and come to the church's Harvest Game Night party instead. It will feature food, games, candy and kids dressed as biblical characters. What it won't include are scary things like ghosts -- outside of the holy one, of course. For Moore, it's about sending a consistent message as a Christian. "It can be confusing for people you're trying to communicate your Christian values to," Moore says. "If they see you're a part of this Christian community but you also celebrate something that is purely anti-Christian, it kind of convolutes us. It really hurts us when we get ready to tackle other issues and we've lost credibility." Beverly Phillips, assistant director of public relations of the Jewish Community Council, said many Orthodox Jews avoid the holiday completely. "Instead, they focus on Purim," Phillips says, referring to a Jewish festival that celebrates being saved from slaughter in Persia. "It's a celebration in March, and kids do dress up in costume then." In the Muslim community, Halloween doesn't seem to be an issue, says Imad Hamad, a father of three and regional director of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee. He says his kids and others he knows from Muslim families celebrate Halloween in typical fashion with costumes, candy, tricks and treats. He said the religious implications of the holiday had never crossed his mind. Denise Borino Quinn unexpectedly won a role as a mafia wife Posted: 31 Oct 2010 04:58 AM PDT ROSELAND, N.J. -- Denise Borino-Quinn, who unexpectedly won a role as a mafia wife on "The Sopranos" after she attended an open casting call, has died. She was 46. The Farmer Funeral Home in Roseland, N.J., said Borino-Quinn died Wednesday after a long battle with liver cancer. Her husband, Luke Quinn Jr., had died in March. When she wasn't acting, Borino-Quinn worked at a New Brunswick law firm. |

Saif Ali Khan with Kareena Kapoor size zero in Bollywood Posted: 31 Oct 2010 04:32 AM PDT The trendsetter of size zero in Bollywood, actress Kareena Kapoor now 'hates' to be called size zero. She has gained weight in right measure at right places, and now is in love with her zaftig, voluptuous figure. Recently during the photoshoot for a shoe brand, Kareena, who is at her curvy best, did not opt for any photoshopped effects to make her pictures more photogenic they were shot. She wasn't conscious at all about her legs not looking lean. As a source tells a tabloid, "Kareena's photos are natural as she never asks for airbrushed pictures." Usually celebrities ask for touchups but Kareena likes to keep it natural. For her upcoming films too she is without her size-zero frame. So, whether it's Ra.One, Bodyguard, Agent Vinod or a Karan Johar film with Imran Khan, we will see Bebo in new avatar that is nowhere near her wispy look in Tashan or Kambakkht Ishq. Yes Bebo, the audience too would love it. Is Saif Ali Khan saying 'yeah!'. |
Movie Online Nakshatra Review, Cast & Crew, Pictures, wallpapers, Songs and Rating Posted: 31 Oct 2010 04:29 AM PDT A tacky thriller starring a rag-tag bunch of actors isn't everybody's idea of entertainment. Nakshatra, starring Shubh Mukherjee, Sabina Sheema, Milind Soman and Anupam Kher, is a dud of a thriller revolving around the burglary of a priceless diamond necklace and a bunch of usual suspects, including the film's hero who ends up in the police net. Ajay (Shubh) is a whizz when it comes to games and cracking codes. He's also an aspiring scriptwriter, who pens a story about a theft in a jewellery museum, and in doing so he inadvertently cracks the security code of a real jewellery museum, where a real burglary takes place. Though the film for which he wrote the script never gets made, bechara Ajay is nabbed by the police for stealing the nakshatra necklace. Inspector Gupte (Milind Soman) from crime branch is sure that Ajay is the culprit. But when Ajay manages to flee to prove his innocence, Gupte smells a rat. He sees a carefully planned robbery in which Ajay is just a pawn. There's also the character of Ajay's girlfriend Jiya (Sabina Sheema) who's his moral support and a source of romantic escapade in the middle of all the bhaag daud. Performances by all the actors are below par, but yes, the action scenes in the film do stand out. Shubh and Soman shine in a chase sequence when the former even manages to slide his bike under a trailer truck. Having said this, Nakshatra fails to thrill because the story is just too over-the-top. The script is tacky and the twists and turns are placed as per the writer's convenience without caring a hoot for authenticity and conviction. The climax when the villain tries to blow the heroine and hero with a bomb is outright funny without intending to. The songs add glamour but act as roadblocks. All in all, this Nakshatra is a waste of time. Better watch the real Nakshatra, the great hunter Orion, in the eastern sky at night. Rating: 1 star out of 5 |
Movie Online Daayen Ya Baayen Review, Cast & Crew, Songs, Wallpapers Posted: 31 Oct 2010 04:27 AM PDT A sweet and simple film set in a tiny hamlet in the scenic foothills of the Himalayas, Daayen Ya Baayen has actor Deepak Dobriyal playing a klutzy school teacher who's the butt of everyone's joke. Bela Negi, the first-time director, takes us into the lives of the village folk in a close-knit community through the story of Ramesh (Deepak) who left the village for the greener pastures of a city life but, unable to make himself a career as a writer, returns to the mountainous hamlet to his tetchy wife, an ailing mother, a cocky son and an unmarried sister-in-law. He takes up the job of a school teacher and is often scorned at by all and sundry in the village for his quirkiness, one of them being taking a book along to read while defecating in an open field. Fortune turns around in the humdrum life of this mediocre teacher when he wins a swanky red car in a television contest. Overnight, the bumbling schmuck becomes a hero in everybody's eyes. But sooner than expected his dream-come-true becomes a nightmare. How? Deepak Dobriyal's slightly over-the-top portrayal of a gauche teacher suits the requirement of the film quite well. The campiness in his character is endearing to watch, particularly after he wins the car but can't maintain it, nor pay for its fuel. The film's other star is Amlan Dutta's camera which beautifully captures the rural idyll of Uttarakhand. The film runs out of fuel in the second half when the story stretches on and on without reaching anywhere. One gets the impression that Bela Negi had too much film stock but not enough grain in the story to tell. As a result, Daayen Ya Baayen ends up as strictly a one-time watch film, that too for those who can sit through slow and sluggish arty movies. Rating: 2 stars out of 5 |
Shahrukh Khan Craze In Don 2 | Pictures | Images | Wallpapers | Music | Songs | Videos Posted: 31 Oct 2010 04:24 AM PDT From Berlin to Beijing, the world's certainly becoming a smaller place for Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan. Presently shooting Farhan Akhtar's film Don 2 in Berlin, Shahrukh will now head to Beijing in China for the premiere of his film My Name Is Khan that had the worldwide release earlier this year. China has a very strict policy toward foreign films. Every year, just 20 foreign films get released in the country. This year, My Name Is Khan has the honour of being one of them. It's also the first Hindi film to release in China in the last three decades. So the honour is all the more special. Reports say the film will be premiered in Beijing on November 30. Director Karan Johar and Shahrukh Khan are most certain to visit, but it's unsure if Kajol, the film's female lead, would join them. We also hear that Karan Johar will himself design SRK's costume which will be a mix of Indian and Chinese style. |
