Motorola Atrix 4G Launching on March 1? Posted: 13 Jan 2011 11:23 PM PST The Motorola Atrix 4G, one of the best Android smartphones unveiled at CES 2011 was supposed to launch in Q1 2011. Now, thanks to some leaked documents from AT&T, we have the exact launch date – March 1. The leaked data from AT&T shows the complete specifications of the Motorola Atrix 4G along with a launch date and an SKU. Normally, AT&T launches new phones only on Sundays, but March 1 is a Tuesday, so this may turn out to be wrong, but from what we know so far, March 1 seems to be the most likely date for the Atrix 4G launch. The Motorola Atrix 4G comes with a dual core ARM Cortex A9 1 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage. It will have a 4.0 inch qHD display and a 5 MP camera. It will run Android 2.2 Froyo with the MotoBLUR UI on top. We don’t have the price yet, but you better start saving up for it right away. via Android Central Share: Comment on This Post | Tweet This | Share on Facebook | Save to Delicious | Stumble This | Digg This | Reddit This Motorola Atrix 4G Launching on March 1? originally appeared on Techie Buzz written by Pathik Shah on Friday 14th January 2011 02:23:42 AM under Mobile News. HP Holding Second Event Aimed At Developers Posted: 13 Jan 2011 07:54 PM PST If there’s anything that HP needs for webOS, it’s developers and apps. Well fear not because following their WebOS event on February 9th, HP will be holding a “developer oriented” event featuring Jon Rubinstein (pre-CEO of Palm) and the HP webOS Engineering and Developer Relations teams. In addition to a special presentation, there will be a reception for the developer community to allow developers to get to know each other and presumably discuss the future plans on applications and development for the platform. You must be a registered developer in order to attend the event and there’s a fairly decent chance that HP/Palm will take this opportunity to hand out some new hardware so developers can get an early start. AT&T Sends Out A Trap Message For Jailbroken and Unlocked iPhone Posted: 13 Jan 2011 11:55 AM PST AT&T seems to be doing something about the multitude of iPhone jailbreaks and iPhone unlocks which allow users to use iPhone on another network. The most recent thing is sending an SMS to users to upgrade their devices to a latest update available from Apple. However, don’t fall for the upgrade message, it is a trap. The iPhone Dev team just tweeted that the message sent by AT&T (see above) is a trap and users should not upgrade their devices, specially those who have unlocked their iPhone. The new update will possibly break the unlock and jailbreak, rendering your device unlockable till an update is available. So please stay away from it if you want to preserve your iPhone unlocks. Google Translate for Android Gets better, Now Does Live Conversation Posted: 13 Jan 2011 11:23 AM PST Android apps are getting better as each day passes and the ones provided by Google is the top of the charts. Google Maps with rotate, tilt and 3D was a revolutionary concept and this time too, we have more awesomeness from Google as the Google Translate app that does live conversation. The moment you speak in a language, Google translate listens to it and translates it in live to another language. The same is true for your friend who speaks a language you have no idea of. This new feature is available in a “Conversation Mode” that autodetects the language and does this conversion in live. This has been tested in English and Spanish currently as these are the two most popular languages used on the Internet and text translate service for these languages already exist. The Google Blogspot has written about this service saying,

China Fighting Mobile Malware With Carrier Countermeasures Posted: 13 Jan 2011 10:30 AM PST With the rampant rise of mobile phones around the world, carriers and customers have been facing an increase in malware on their devices. China plans to put an end to phone manufacturers installing covert applications, that rack up revenue by sending premium SMS text messages on behalf of the user. Knownsec, a Chinese security company, says that the majority of devices that are plagued by this problem are knock-off phones using Android – since it allows for easy installation of applications before they reach consumer hands. The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology have issued a release in which they indicate that carriers and government agencies will begin to implement countermeasures to fight against malware, which includes inspection of handsets and product quality assurance. A members of China’s National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team says “Traditional security threats that exist on the Internet are spreading to mobile handsets, so we must prepare for them in advance”. Vevo Music Videos: Now on Android and Backed By Google Posted: 13 Jan 2011 10:28 AM PST Vevo, the popular music video streaming site has recently launched an Android client with some unique features. The Vevo blog announced this as:
However, in reality, Vevo for Android is served through a channel on YouTube mobile and this means good news for the end user because now, they can watch videos from music labels like Sony BMG, Universal and EMI. These labels were blocked on mobile devices earlier and Vevo has increased the potential for mobile ads on YouTube. The ads will appear as pre-roll videos as seen on the YouTube domain. Google has recently announced that nearly 200 million videos were streamed in the last year, which is double of last year and triple of the year before that. As interesting as these stats are, there is no word on whether they come from actual mobile devices or mobile versions of the website. Though, whether mobile or not does not matter because now, Google can serve ads on all those platforms on which YouTube apps run. The download of Vevo for Android is available at this page. Samsung Intentionally Holding Back Android 2.2 Update For Vibrant Posted: 13 Jan 2011 08:59 AM PST The folks over at AndroidSpin have received a tip from a very reliable source which says that Samsung is intentionally holding back the Android 2.2 update for the Vibrant. According to the tipster, Samsung has a fully functional Android 2.2 OTA for the Vibrant ready to be pushed to the owners but the company is not doing so. The reason behind this move is that the update will affect the sales of the upcoming Vibrant 4G which runs on Android 2.2 and features 4G and a front facing video camera. Below is what the tipster exactly said-:
If this news is true, then Samsung is surely in knee deep trouble. Selling millions of handsets is not going to work for a long time; you need to keep the existing customers happy with Android updates as well. This will make sure that the existing customers remain happy and will make them brand loyal as well. Looks like Samsung is unable to understand this simple logic here. However, I think T-Mobile should also be blamed here. The carrier can easily 'force' Samsung to release the Android 2.2 update for the Vibrant owners but the company is not doing so. It is even possible that it is T-Mobile and not Samsung who are holding back the Android 2.2 update for the Vibrant. After all, Samsung has released the Android 2.2 update for the Galaxy S handsets in all over the world including the Vibrant for the T-Mobile UK network. In fact, the Vibrant 4G has not even been announced yet. Holding back the Android 2.2 update for an unreleased phone does seem a bit impractical to me. What do you think especially T-Mobile Vibrant owners? Do let us know your views by dropping in a comment. Blackberry Apollo Image Render And Specifications Leaked Posted: 13 Jan 2011 08:01 AM PST It would seem that RIM either has a slight issue with keeping things under wraps or is trickling out some of their new upcoming devices. In addition to the previously leaked Blackberry Dakota, a successor to the current Curve has been outed and detailed as well. Moving away from the squared off and angular design of the 8520, the Blackberry Apollo adopts a slightly curved body with a nice taper at the top and bottom. Internally, the new Curve bumps specifications and aligns RIM with some of the competitors offerings and should be launching with OS 6.1.
