A new episode of The Whole Truth sees the airwaves. A high school history teacher and family man is arrested, charged with the rape and murder of a female student. It certainly looks promising but will it look as good on TV as it sounds on paper.

The higher the price, the bigger the profits, and a higher price also attracts more competitors trying to do business in that product. Those competing businesses – legal or illegal, that's what this is, a business – have to establish and protect turf against each other in an unregulated market. The more enforcement, the greater the necessity for drug trafficking organizations to arm up with more lethal weaponry; but that presents no problem, really, because greater enforcement brings them the greater profits (through the artificially increased price of the drugs) so that buying and creating entire arsenals of guns and other weapons simply becomes a percentage of the cost of doing business.

The "drug war" of Mexican President Felipe Calderon may be the most obvious example of how government, police and military officials, themselves involved in the illegal drug trade, use drug laws as a pretext to eliminate the competition to open the markets and the shipping routes to their own favored narco-trafficking organizations: the ones that offer the authorities and their preferred narco-bankers the bigger slice of the profits.

On occasion, mind you: 'The Defenders' is probably going to be pretty predictable, as these things go. Still, the show is efficient when it comes to the legal stories, and there are scenes in the pilot between Belushi and Stephen Root, who plays a mildly unhinged judge, that are seriously enjoyable. And though Jerry O'Connell, who plays Nick's law partner, Pete, sometimes gives off a slightly skeevy vibe, 'The Defenders' uses that to the show's advantage. These guys are not corporate drones working for big firms in glassy high-rises, after all.

Much of 'The Defenders' has a vintage feel: On this show, flight attendants like to fool around with passengers, convertibles are the height of cool and it is assumed that many Vegas residents are hepcats who are hip to its swingin' history. It may not be the most original show on TV, but the whole enterprise has a zestiness that is missing from many other new programs, among them ABC's 'The Whole Truth.'

Gugu, short for Gugulethu, Xhosa for "Our Pride", was born in the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, England to South African doctor Patrick Mbatha and his wife, nurse Anne Raw. Her parents separated when she was a year old, though she is still close to her father, and she was brought up by her mother in the town of Witney.Gugu Mbatha-Raw was born in 1983 in Oxford, England. Her first name is short for Gugulethu, which is Zulu for "our pride". She was raised in Witney, Oxfordshire (sounds like a place out of the Lord of the Rings). At a young age she discovered her passion for acting and actively pursued it.

The time she was 11-years-old she was already appearing in plays at the Oxford Playhouse. Not only is she an outstanding actress, but she was also blessed with musical ability too.Gugu Mbatha-Raw co-stars opposite of Boris Kodjoe in J.J. Spy Series 'Undercovers' Surprisingly Underperforms USA

This lark of a show, which many have likened to classic escapism like Hart to Hart, also sidesteps the usual sexual-tension "'shipper" dilemma by introducing its leads as already married, having put the spy game aside to start a catering business until they're called back to duty (by a gruff Gerald McRaney), finding the action to be a much-needed aphrodisiac for their cooled-off ardor. Undercovers coins the term "sex-pionage," and the camera does love this couple as they embark on a globe-trotting mission (Madrid! Paris! Russia!) to locate a fellow agent with whom Sam once had a fling. It's like the biggest-budget USA Network show you ever saw, fun to watch but rather forgettable, because the stakes just don't feel all that high. Still, for those who've had their fill of dark drama, Undercovers may be just the ticket for a good snuggle.

This really isn't my kind of show (just like Vegas isn't my kind of getaway), but the tone is irresistibly rambunctious as O'Connell (the irreverent horndog) and Belushi (the canny strategist, unhappily divorced) treat the court like a boxing ring, with their considerable egos on the line. It's a brash, enjoyable hour that doesn't take itself very seriously, though fighting for their underdog clients is very serious business.

She is terrific as Kathryn Peale, a tough and intimidating boss and fearful opponent to her law-school buddy Jimmy Brogan (Morrow), who gets a kick out of their taunting gamesmanship. But my resistance to the format stands. The episodes zip back and forth between the defense and prosecution teams as each builds a case and reacts to the other side's latest strategies. It's all very fast-paced but relentlessly and annoyingly simplistic, with virtually no dramatic nourishment along the way. The show's other gimmick is to add a reveal at the end of each episode to let us know who was really responsible for the crime and whether justice was served. In the two episodes I watched, can't say I really cared by the end.

Their scenes are enjoyable enough, but pale next to the wine-sodden antics of Jules' circle of friends as they play a hilarious "movie mash-up" drinking game that Jules somehow can't get the hang of. Cougar Town developed in its first season from a crude and rather desperate sex farce to a terrifically enjoyable ensemble piece that doesn't need big guest stars to zing.Although if it brings more eyeballs to the show, all the better.
