 Devi was elected to the then Madhya Bharat Assembly for the first time in 1952.Initially associated with socialist ideology she in about six decades of public life, occupied several key posts including that of Rajya Sabha member and minister in the Motilal Vora and Digvijay Singh governments. In her political career spanning more than five decades, Jamuna Devi has held several key positions including that of deputy chief minister in the second term of Digvijay Singh (1998-2003). After the Congress lost the 2003 poll, she was nominated as CLP leader and in effect, leader of the opposition in the state assembly.The only sitting legislator in the state who was a member of the Madhya Bharat assembly in the first election held in independent India in 1952, she has been elected to the state assembly six times. She has also been member of the Lok Sabha (1962-67) and the Rajya Sabha (1978-81). In the year 1985, Devi was elected as the member of the State Assembly and inducted as Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Madhya Pradesh Cabinet. She rose to become a Cabinet Minister in the State in the year 1993 after she was elected as an MLA for the third term.In 1998, she again won the polls for the third time and was inducted as the first woman Deputy Chief Minister. A case in point is the huge gap in the market cap of Binani Cement and its promoter and holding company Binani Industries. For Dalmia Cement (Bharat), in the first nine months of FY10, the cement division accounted for nearly 67% of net segment revenue of Rs 1,629.3 crore, while sugar division contributed 24.8%. Also, post-restructuring on a consolidated basis for the first nine months of the current financial year, a net debt in Dalmia Bharat Enterprises would be Rs 1,061 crore. While for Dalmia Cement (Bharat), it would be Rs 486 crore. Dalmia Cement also owns and operates sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh state, India. The company has total operating capacity of 300,000 MT per year. The sugar production capacity is met by three operational units with a total collective capacity of 22500 tons of cane crush any given day. High productivity is ensured through employing state of the art technology in the sugar manufacturing process. Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited, together with its subsidiaries, engages in the manufacture and sale of cement in India. City police commissioner AK Khan said the candidates should come well in advance to the centre for verification of hall tickets and identity. "No other person, except candidates, would be allowed into the centre,he said adding that the invigilators should also bring their identity proof along with their appointment letter. Mobile phones would not be allowed into the examination halls. Cyberabad police commissioner S Prabhakar Reddy said nearly 30,000 students would appear for the examination at 60 centres in the Commissionerate limits. "More than 2,000 police personnel would be deployed at the centres and a four-layer security system would be put in place to prevent any untoward incident,he said. Police forces would also be deployed inside the examination centres, he added. Check-posts would be set up on the roads leading to the centres.  |

 Mindy Cohn was the most improbable. The others were all child actors with experience in performing, but Cohn never trained as an actress and knew little or nothing about the series when she first came to the attention of the producers. Born in Los Angeles, she was an ordinary high school student attending the Harvard-Westlake School when the makers of The Facts of Life, planning their first season, arrived there to observe and photograph an actual girls' school in operation. It was reportedly series star Charlotte Rae who first spotted Cohn, a student at the school, entertaining some friends, and brought her to the attention of the producers. All involved agreed that she was a "natural," one of those uncanny, untrained individuals who simply looked good and memorable and funny in front of the camera, in a manner comparable to the child performers they had already cast, and with that ability added something extra special in terms of verisimilitude -- and a good deal of wry humor to the cast they already had. And so Cohn was cast as Natalie Green and was one of the three original young first-season cast members to get spotlighted when the program moved to its second season, achieving stardom in the course of a seven-season run for the series. According to Cohn, in an interview for the DVD release of the first two seasons, the producers actually asked her to put the weight back on, if possible; when she refused, they came up with a compromise by having her character dress in clothes that made her look like she was still overweight. Since the series ended production, she has somewhat limited her acting work while earning a degree in cultural anthropology. Cohn has specifically taken parts that were devised to capitalize on her work from the series and has still found enough roles to keep her occupied.  Mindy Cohn practically grew up on Facts of Life, the hit TV show she co-starred in, along with Lisa Whelchel, Nancy McKeon, Kim Fields, and Charlotte Rae. She played the part of a happy-go-lucky wisecracker named Natalie Green for 9 seasons (1979 - 88).Mindy rather lucked into the part of Natalie. Charlotte Rae had gone to an all girls school called Westlake in CA (the school Eastland was modeled after. In fact, Eastland was originally called Eastlake.) to try and authenticate scripts for the early episodes of The Facts of Life.  |

 Widely known Green River Killer Gary Ridgway was denied execution in Washington state. He had confessed that he murdered 48 women and as far as the penalty is concerned, he may not be out of the woods.According to a detective in Oregon, Gary Ridgway is responsible for at least the deaths of two women in Washington state. He adds further that if it is proved that they were killed in Oregon, then he may possibly face the death penalty.He asked the older man if he had caught anything. The man replied that he had not. According to Smith and Guillen's book, The Search for the Green River Killer, the man standing then asked Ainsworth if he found anything, to which Ainsworth replied, "Just this old singletree." Soon after, the two men left in the old pick-up truck and Ainsworth continued to float down the river. Moments later he found himself surrounded by death.As he peered into the clear waters his gaze was met by staring eyes. A young black woman's face was floating just beneath the surface of the water, her body swaying beneath her with the current. Believing it might be a mannequin, Ainsworth attempted to snag the figure with a pole. Accidentally, the raft overturned as he tried to dislodge the figure from a rock and Ainsworth fell into the river. To his horror, he realized that the figure was not a mannequin, but a dead woman. Seconds later he saw another floating corpse of a half nude black woman, partially submerged in the water.These brutal, sexually oriented killings came to light when bodies were discovered submerged in Seattle's Green River. Dead young women of mixed nationalities, young in age and generally attractive were asphyxiated and left with spiky objects lodged in their vaginal cavity. The discoveries of so many bodies disturbed the local population and unnerved people going about their daily lives. The locals began to scan roadsides for bodies and watched for police protection on roads and byways. The Green River killer honed his methodology carefully. He didn't hunt in the big city, but in the rural areas where his victims were procured locally. His victims were none-too-bright women who got into cars with an unknown assailant. The modus operandi of the Green River Killer was to capture and subdue a random woman. No elaborate masks or disguises were required. The rural trust local enjoyed with each other defended him from being caught. Dumping the bodies of those he murdered into the river masked concise details about time of death and circumstances of the killings. On April 7, 1987 police took hair and saliva samples that were used for a DNA test that was later used in order to arrest him. On November 30, 2001, nearly 20 years later, Ridgway was arrested for the murders of four women that his DNA connected him too.On November 5, 2003 Ridgway pled guilty to 48 counts of aggravated first degree murder. His plea spared him from being executed for the murders as long as he led officials to the bodies of the murdered women and gave them additional details that they asked for. There is much controversy over whether or not this was the right approach. Many feel that he should have been executed.On December 18, 2003 he was convicted to 48 life sentences without possibility of parole and one life sentence to be served consecutively.  Court documents released at the time of Ridgway's arrest indicated that many of the spots where bodies were found were in or near areas where Ridgway had sex with his second wife. The couple divorced in 1981.Also disclosed today was that more than a decade before he strangled his first Green River victim, Ridgway, then 17, stabbed and seriously wounded a little boy, who survived.A first-grader at the time -- 1966 or early 1967 the victim now lives in California, a source said. Details of the attack were confirmed by another person involved in the case.The stabbing came 16 years before Ridgway's murderous frenzy from 1982 to 1984, which targeted women in the Seattle area, mainly runaways and prostitutes. The first victims turned up in the Green River in South King County, giving the killer his name.  |
