Sarah Butler is extremely thrilled on being chosen as the protagonist for the remake of the 1978 cult-classic, I spit on your grave. She believes it is an honour to be considered capable to portray the emotions of a strong female who rises up from the ignominy of being raped to getting back at her attackers. She confirms that it is almost an exact remake of the original classic but it deviates on key points. In the original movie, feminism was used as a means to reach her goal but in the modern version, it is all about skill and intellect. “One of the biggest updates we’ve done to it is that instead of approaching her revenge by using her sexuality as a weapon, in our version I don’t do that at all. I use my cunning and my brute force to capture and torture and kill these men. That’s a big difference." emphasizes, Sarah. The original film was criticized for its over indulgence in showing the film from just the rapists and not the victim's perspective. The director of the 1978 feature, Meir Zarchi was inspired or rather moved by his own experience where he encountered a hurt and bruised nude woman coming out of a city park. He did assist her and did his best yet it left him shaken to the core. It led to the film which has both been highly acclaimed and also severely criticized. “At the film’s end,” wrote Roger Ebert, “I walked out of the theater quickly, feeling unclean, ashamed, and depressed.” Briggs is adamant that this case is not unlike Death Wish and the like because it is pretty evident that the woman is triumphant at the end. Sarah Butler is completely cut off from the world of analysis and conjecture and vehemently states that the film is a poignant tale of a courageous woman. She also goes on to state that "I definitely cried for a few minutes when I was being raped. I actually was able to disconnect from myself in the film and noticed that it really got to me.” |

Movie Review: Jayamma is a poor lady living with her 8th class educated son Jackie whose complete name is Janakiraman (played by Puneeth Rajakumar). Jackie is quite smart as compared to his peers. Jayamma operates Ragi Machine to earn her living for their survival. Jackie is quite chatty and likes to talk to anyone to explore any opportunity to earn some extra bucks. Jackie is an expert at playing cards. Yashoda (Harshika Poonacha) is the local priest's daughter who is in love with a photographer having his own photo studio. She approaches Jackie to help her in getting married to the man she is love with. Jackie readily agrees to help her after an argument with the Priest decides to get away from it. Yashoda runs away with her lover to a town. Priest suspects that Jackie is the helping hand in this. Jackie decides to go to the town and bring Yashoda back to Priest as he wants to convince the Priest that he is not involved in his daughter's running to town. Situation gets worsens for Jackie and even without doing any wrong things he is being sought after by both – police and wrong doers. Jackie's coming to town creates lots of problems for him. Jackie gets to know about a gang transporting girls to outside countries by illegal means. Jackie decides to crack the nut and expose the mafia to police. He investigates and reaches the place where these illegal activities take place. Since police is also continuously chasing him, they also reach at the spot and ultimately after a long fight at that place Jackie is able to prove his innocence. Overall it is an interesting, well directed movie by Soori. Puneeth Kumar is at his best in the movie. This is 78th production from Dr Rajkumar production house. Technically the movie is at par with any good movie. Rating: 3/5 |
| Big Boss 4 Day 11 brings the women to their dancing shoes Posted: 14 Oct 2010 04:49 AM PDT  Bigg Boss In the house of Big Boss 4, day 11 begins with the usual tiffs and this time it is Sakshi and Hrishant. Sakshi who is waiting for her turn to take a bath is commented upon by Hrishant that the person who is responsible for cooking in the house should get ready before everyone else. On this argument Ashmit takes the side of Hrishant and crosses Sakhshi. For the place of HOD Sameer nominates Rahul and Ashmit whom he thinks are appropriate for the part. Sameer goes on to inform the others about his decision while everyone is quizzed as to who will be the right person to pick out for the spot of captaincy. Begum on this point presents the view that everyone should pick out Rahul as the HOD. Begum then is asked to read out a letter by Big Boss which says that the house mates have failed in the appointed task and therefore their will be a cut in their luxury goods. The letter also asked that as a part of punishment the women of the house have to dance for Ashmit. Hearing this all the women immediately got on practicing and decking up for the performance. Then they danced on ‘Aaja mahi ve’ and also impressed Ashmit wherein Ashmit was supposed to pick one for a candle light dinner and Ashmit chose to do this with Shweta who danced the best. Later Hrishant has another rift with Veena over the food being more salty. The argument increases and Veena finally breaks down. Also in this episode Shweta openly revealed that she is seeing the perfect man of her life for one and a half year. |
| Shah Rukh Khan’s RA.One shares an action sequence with Rajni’s Robot Posted: 14 Oct 2010 03:43 AM PDT  RA.One The home production of Shahruk Khan Ra.One is in controversy every now and then and the latest accusation is that the movie has stolen an action sequence which is basically a train top chase which is similar to the one being used in Robot a flick starring Rajnikanth which had already hit the theaters. Now both Shahruk khan and his company Red Chillies Production are facing a very great problem due to this same action sequence with Robot. In the movie Robot, the actor Rajnikanth is also seen attempting great high level octane stunts which were filmed on the top of a moving train and which also involved the use of some special effects and other exclusive filming technologies. According to the reports even Ra.one which is a production of Shahruk Khan uses same action sequences on a running train and other nerve cracking sequences which have been shot at a hefty cost of some Rs 3 crore for the movie. But since Robot has already being released by the producers, Shahruk doesn't want any similarities to be noticed by the fans and the audience and therefore plans to change them completely. A sound engineer named Resul Pookutty who is working on Shahruk's Ra.one denies any copying act but confirms the similarity between the sequence as he was also a part of Rajni's Robot. In the movie Shahruk plays an acknowledged UK scientist who wants to develop a robot which can assist the lives of humans but ends up in a one which makes their life hell due to some distortion. He then helps human endeavors to dismantle and finish this Robot. |

 Neelam Neelam Kothari who is a former actress and now a jewelry designer is doing her every bit to save her Beau Sameer Soni from getting evicted out of the Big Boss4 house. Sameer who has been nominated amongst the three members for the final eviction of the week has been chosen for his diplomatic take in the house. However Neelam is gearing up to be his back support wherein she took to the micro blogging site twitter asking everyone to vote for Sameer with a message that points to the fact that Sameer is innocent and his peaceful take on the other contestants has resulted into this backfiring mode. Neelam in her message also mentioned Sameers voting code along with the voting number upon which the entries can be sent. Her message ends with her request to vote for Sameer with dual reference to the word vote. The actor cum soon to be director was picked out by house mates who refereed to him as being diplomatic in his undertakings within the house. This comment basically reflected a sign of insecurity as Sammer has unlike other contestants maintained a state of calmness over disruptive issues that off and on take the over the other house mates. Most of the cable operators in Mumbai and Thane barred Colors TV on Wednesday following an appeal from a senior leader of Shiv Sena. Color TV broadcasts Bigg Boss season 4, which has been in the centre of many controversies since its very beginning. This announcement was made from an official of the cable operators association yesterday. Click here Big Boss 4 Full Episode Video Ganesh Naidu, The president of the Cable Operators and Distributors Association said that they were acted in interest of a request put forward by Anil Parab, a senior leader of Shiv Sena who asked them to block the channel, Colors TV, so as to support them in their movement against the participation of Pakistani actors in the reality show. He further said that Parab informed them about the indifferent treatment that the Indian channels get in Pakistan, so we should also refrain from giving any importance to Pakistani nationals. Naidu and his colleagues agreed with him and decided to take Bigg Boss off air in Mumbai. Some operators blocked the channel from 6 p.m. onwards but rest of them completely barred the channel from 9 p.m., the telecast time of Bigg Boss. The Shiv Sena has reportedly already given a warning to Colors TV to eliminate the two Pakistani participants – Veena Malik and Begum Nawazish Ali latest by 6 p.m. on Wednesday; otherwise the channel itself will be completely blocked. Cable subscribers from various parts of Mumbai and Thane affirmed the sudden disappearance of the channel, Colors TV. Others expressed their extreme disappointment at being deprived of this popular show because of the political disagreement between the Colors TV management and Shiv Sena. Despite continuous attempts, the officials of Shiv Sena refused to comment whether they were responsible for Colors TV going off air or not. The party also demonstrated outside the Bigg Boss house in Lonavala, a hill-station situated 120 km away from here to demand the removal of the two Pakistani participants. |

 KBC 4 Kaun Banega Crorepati in its season 4 has been a much awaited show for the viewers who have anxiously waited for their favorite Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan to come to their living rooms through the medium of television. And now when he is finally here everyone is enjoying his comfortable enigmatic presence on the small screen where he asks quick smart questions from the participants and keeps them motivated and encouraged to give the right answer and win the prize money. Mr Bachchan's presence sometimes encourages the contestants and at other times also leaves them point blank on the hot seat where they face problems even in answering minor simple questions. The same Bachchan effect created some problems for a contestant on KBC's Season 4's yesterday's episode where the host asked a question on the SIM card in a mobile phone. The question required the contestant to give the full form of SIM where she got confused and baffled. This was supposed to be just the 3rd question for the contestant for a sum prize of Rs 20,000 when she got stuck due to the four options offered by the question. The confusion was between subscriber and smart for the letter S in the term SIM. The contestant finally used the expert's opinion, the helpline where the famous television commentator Charu Sharma answered the question with the option which said subscriber. The full form for SIM is subscriber identity module and it was rather astonishing to see that the contestant who could not answer this easy question was a Computer Science Engineer. |

 Pongal Pongal is the main harvest festival which is celebrated in Southern India and primarily in Tamil Nadu. It celebrates the seasonal landmarks which affect a farmer's growth and prosperity. India is mainly an agricultural country and the festivities marking a farmer's lifestyle are of utmost importance in this land. Meaning of Pongal and Significance: It means 'to boil'. Pongal is celebrated amidst fanfare in the month of Thai that is during January and February when cereals and other ingredients of Tamil cuisine are harvested. It also marks the beginning of the shift or journey of the sun northwards. Pongal is quintessentially a thanks giving festival where gratuitous farmers extend their thanks and deep respect to nature to have provided them with grain to sustain them. Pongal festivities extend upto 4 days. [Pongal SMS and Wishes] The first day is the Bhogi festival dedicated to Lord Indra or the God of rain and thunder for granting them with ample rains which provided them with abundance of harvest. On this day, worthless articles in the household are offered to the fire in a ritual called Bhogi Mantalu. There is a bonfire around which much merry making and dancing commences marking the end of winter. The second day is for the worshipping of sun God where rice and milk are cooked outside and offered, people adorn traditional attires and the utensils utilised in the ceremony are discarded. Also we get glimpses of the famous Pongal Kolam. The third day is Mattu Pongal in the honour of cattle that are adequately bedecked with beads, bells, corn and garlands and revered by all and sundry. Pongal which is a dish is fed to them and cattle races begin everywhere marking joy and merriment. The fourth day is Kannum pongal which is celebrated with solemn aratis to mark the end of the festivities and prayers are offered for the continued well-being of the family. It consists of turmeric leaves, plantains and sweet and Venn Pongal. Pongal Kolam:Many would be wondering the meaning of Pongal Kolam. Pongal Kolam is breath-taking art that adorns every doorstep during Pongal. Mind-boggling patterns are drawn with simple chalk powder and coloured chalk to add to the festive atmosphere of Pongal. Its history can be traced as far back as the Indus valley civilization and Mahabharata. It is enlisted as an art form in the famous Vatsyayana's Kamasutra. It is referred with different names in various parts of India namely Alpana in Bengal or Rangoli in Maharashtra and the like. It is highly significant to the people and not merely an art. It is a symbol of prosperity for some. The rice flour used in its design is food for other creatures hence representing the care of humans towards other beings. Kaavi or the red border of the Kolam acts as a shield defending the house against evil forces and is thus undertaken with great enthusiasm by all the family members. Kolam is that aesthetic design which symbolizes the area where the sacred Pongal is prepared. Pongal Recipes: Since Pongal is a festival of harvest, it boasts of an array of South Indian delicacies which are a gourmet's delight. Pongal recipes are varied and include many types of Pongal that are prepared by the Tamilians on this occasion. Venn Pongal, sweet Pongal, Chakara Pongal, Rava Pongal etc are just some of them.  Parkash Singh Badal Manpreet Badal and Sukhbir Badal have very little in mutual apart from sharing the same surnames. While Sukhbir's stint in politics began with him being the apparent heir of his father Parkash Badal but Parkash favored his cousin Manpreet Badal more than his son to take his spot and hence in 1994, Parkash Singh Badal asked Manpreet to come back and stand in the Gidderbaha Assembly constituency bypolls. Sukhbir who has been three times elected as a Lok Sabha member from Punjab only surfaced his real interest in politics at the 2007 elections of the assembly.
