PTA and Alcatel Lucent Present Laptops to SOS Children Village Posted: 25 Nov 2010 03:32 AM PST PTA and Alcatel Lucent Present Laptops to SOS Children Village is a post from: ProPakistani Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) joined hands with Alcatel Lucent (ALU) Pakistan to donate laptops to the children of SOS Village as a Corporate Social Responsibility gesture. Laptop donation ceremony was held today at SOS Village, Bahria Town, Islamabad. Chairman PTA Dr. Mohammad Yaseen and CEO ALU, Mr. Aadil Rauf attended the ceremony. Speaking on the occasion Chairman PTA Dr. Mohammed Yaseen said that Government and private sector should work together and ensure that Corporate Social Responsibility must at all times remain a priority, especially in Pakistan's perspective where disparities remain high. He appreciated the great zeal of SOS Staff who groom disadvantaged children for the future of the country and applauded SOS worldwide for looking after these kids so responsibly. He also thanked to ALU for providing assistance to SOS. During the ceremony CEO ALU, Mr. Aadil Rauf explained the need for technological advancement awareness amongst children, and to equip them with modern tools so they can excel at the required pace. PTA and ALU aimed to continue such endeavors in future as well he added. SOS senior representatives Ms. Naznin Murtaza and Ms. Lubna Malik thanked PTA & ALU for taking interest in developing better SOS individuals. SOS Children’s Villages is a private social welfare organization providing orphans and abandoned children a home, good nurturing and a fair chance in life. It may be mentioned that development of ICTs has become an important growth factor for countries around the globe. With every passing day, the world is edging into an information-driven place. Samsung to Help Building a Girls’ School in Kasur Posted: 25 Nov 2010 03:29 AM PST Samsung to Help Building a Girls’ School in Kasur is a post from: ProPakistani Samsung Electronics has collaborated with SOS Rural Support Programme, for the construction of a modern school at Ladhayke Village in District Kasur, to serve a vast rural area and uplift the standard of education. Samsung will provide funds for complete construction and furnishing of this girls school, to be completed within a period of 3 months. The institution will be registered as "SAMSUNG Grammar School" and will be operated by the SOS RSP in accordance with immaculate educational procedures, monitored on a quarterly basis through progress reports on achievement of objectives. An independent auditor will also be engaged to ensure transparency. The Country Manager of Samsung Electronics Pakistan, Mr. Steve Han said,

Due to the close proximity of the Indian border, the girl students face serious problems in reaching the nearest Government Girls High School, which is located 4.5 Kilometres away in the Bhedian Village. The Samsung Grammer Girls high school will solve this problem permanently. Other recreational, cultural and training opportunities will also be provided by this educational institution managed by experienced and well qualified teachers. The school structure will comprise of a building with 5 class rooms, library, science labs, computer labs, sports and transportation facilities. SOS will also establish a community health centre in collaboration with SAMSUNG in the school building to provide the basic need of poor community particularly maternity services. Pakistan’s Cellular Subscribers Stats for Sep 2010 Posted: 24 Nov 2010 10:17 PM PST Pakistan’s Cellular Subscribers Stats for Sep 2010 is a post from: ProPakistani Cellular subscribers in Pakistan reached 100,134,748 mark, as of September 2010, according to latest stats released by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. Cellular teledensity reached 60.1 percent with slight addition during the July-Sep 2010 quarter. During the quarter, cellular companies showed slow sales or even negative sales due churn or clean up of records. Thanks to its LBC offers, Zong topped the charts by adding 748,746 customers during the quarter. Ufone remained at second slot while Telenor and Warid seemed struggling for sales and showed moderate positive addition. While on other hands Mobilink lost some 758,449 subscribers during the quarter. Mobilink said this loss in customers is due to cleanup of records. Wateen to Announce New CEO Soon Posted: 24 Nov 2010 08:32 PM PST Wateen to Announce New CEO Soon is a post from: ProPakistani Tariq Malik, CEO of Wateen Telecom is stepping down to focus on his entrepreneurial ventures, we have confirmed with sources in the company. Tariq Malik had resigned earlier this year, however, at that time Wateen’s board of directors urged him to stay with the company. When asked, Wateen confirmed that Mr. Malik's resignation has been approved by the board of directors now. "company is looking for new chief, however no name has been finalized so far", said Wateen's spokesperson in a conversation with ProPakistani.
