UFC Fighter Jacob Volkmann Visited by FBI For Saying 'Someone Needs to Knock Some Sense Into Obama'

Posted: 09 Jan 2011 11:19 AM PST

Any reported threat against the president must be investigated, no matter how stretched or tenuous it appears. Even though Volkmann was not using the word 'knock' in a literal sense, it is generally best to avoid any verbiage that could be interpreted as wanting to cause physical harm to the president.

Video embedded below.

"Volkmann prevailed in his most recent Ultimate Fighting Championship bout, against Antonio McKee, this past Saturday in Las Vegas. Following his win over McKee at UFC 125, Volkmann was interviewed by MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani. At the end of the interview Volkmann was asked whom he would like to fight next.

Volkmann replied that it didn't matter, then added a political message deriving from his professional experience as a chiropractor: "Actually, Obama. He's not too bright.... like the make a home affordable plan and his health care plan, someone needs to knock some sense into that idiot."

Your Tweets Reveal Your Location

Posted: 09 Jan 2011 10:57 AM PST

More accurately, the study could be described by saying your dialect reveals your location. Researches found that the dialect is visible in your tweets. The words and slang you use are an indication of where you live.

Picture embedded below.

"They then analyzed the raw text in those messages with a model trained to pick out regional differences such as favored Twitter slang terms ("hella" in Northern California, "wasssup" in New York) as well as sport-team preferences (for example, the Celtics in Boston, the Knicks in New York, the Cavs in Cleveland).

The researchers found that Twitter postings also reflect well-known regionalisms from spoken speech, such as Southerners' "y'all" vs. Pittsburghers' "yinz," and the regional-based references to soda vs. pop vs. Coke.

The model, verified with the geotag information, could predict the location of a microblogger in the U.S. to within 300 miles.

All Legislation in Considered by The House Being Postponed Due to Jared Loughner's Shooting of Gabrielle Giffords (D)

Posted: 08 Jan 2011 07:50 PM PST

It is sad to think that our congressional leaders will have to focus more on protecting themselves than fixing the problems with our country; but they have little choice. More details are scheduled to be released tomorrow.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/thenote/2011/01/health-care-repeal-vote-postponed-after-arizona-shooting.html

"In his second written statement today, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., has announced that the House will delay its efforts to repeal the health care law next week as well as other legislative business "so that we can take whatever actions may be necessary in light of today's tragedy."

Lawmakers voted last week to schedule debate and a vote on repealing health care reform on Wednesday. Repeal was expect to pass in the House, but chances were less likely in the Senate and the White House threatened to veto it.

"All legislation currently scheduled to be considered by the House of Representatives next week is being postponed so that we can take whatever actions may be necessary in light of today's tragedy," Cantor said in a statement. "Further information relating to a revised House schedule will be released tomorrow."

Arizona Chief US District Judge John Roll Confirmed Killed by Jared Loughner

Posted: 08 Jan 2011 04:45 PM PST

Arizona Chief US District Judge John Roll was fatally shot by Jared Loughner.

Fortunately, Gabrielle Giffords (D) may just pull through despite a bullet passing through her brain. We will have to wait to see what long term effects of her injury will be.

http://www.politicsdaily.com/2011/01/08/arizona-chief-u-s-district-judge-john-m-roll-assassinated-in-t

"John McCarthy Roll, Arizona's chief federal trial judge, was slain Saturday morning in the gun attack in Tucson which gravely wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz. At least four others were killed in the attack, and as many as 12 more were wounded.

Judge Roll evidently was at Rep. Giffords' public event -- some reports suggested he lived close-by and decided to drop in and say hello to Gifford -- when he was shot and killed by the suspected gunman whom police later identified as Jared Loughner, of Tucson. Federal officials in Washington confirmed Roll's death approximately three hours after the attack. Loughner is now in custody.

Judge Roll was a 1991 judicial appointee of George H. W. Bush after a distinguished career as an Arizona state attorney, an assistant U.S.attorney in the state, and then as a state court judge.
