We aren’t staying at Pop Century….. we are staying at Ft Wilderness Cabins!

Posted: 02 Jan 2011 09:24 AM PST

I have been keeping a surprise from my husband (and as a result….you) for six weeks! We had originally booked our reservation at the Pop Century resort. After announcing the trip on the blog, I was contacted my one of my amazing readers. She and her husband had been so touched by our loss of our son and how we were celebrating his life that they wanted to do something nice for us.

They are members of the Disney Vacation Club and used their points to book us a week at the Ft. Wilderness cabins! I was so blown away by their generosity and wonderful compassion. They did this for me, a stranger to them. I am in tears as I type this because I was touched so deeply.

My husband has ALWAYS wanted to stay at Ft. Wilderness (and Wilderness Lodge. He is equally in love). So after I worked out the details with my reader, I decided to wait and surprise my husband until we were here on site. So not only was I keeping the trip a secret from the kids, I was also keeping our resort a secret from my husband.

So earlier today when it was time to go check into our resort, I took him behind the van and spilled the beans and recorded the whole thing. (I will be uploading it when I upload the video of the kids.) He couldn’t believe it. He just kept saying Wow and Oh My Goodness. And he wouldn’t stop grinning. It was THE BEST. I am so glad I was able to surprise him. He still can’t stop smiling 2 hours later!

So thank you to my Amazing Reader! And please keep her and her son in your prayers. He is due any day now and will need to have heart surgery soon after birth. He could use every prayer, positive thought, etc that you can send him. His name is Mason.

The post about Andrew this morning…..

Posted: 02 Jan 2011 08:35 AM PST

The post I wrote about Andrew didn’t go through this morning. It only posted the title I wrote…..

As most of you know, we took this trip to Disney to celebrate the short life of my sweet son who I lost in October at just 19 weeks gestation. And I am so glad that we did.

Look at what was waiting on us in the sky this morning. I firmly believe it was a sign from Heaven that everything is alright. That he is here with us in spirit and that we can let loose and enjoy ourselves.

Welcome to Disney my sweet angel baby.

Day 1 of our January 2011 Disney Vacation

Posted: 02 Jan 2011 02:20 AM PST

Our reservations are for January 2nd – January 9th. I knew that we would want to drive straight to Disney on January 1st (because we are CRAZY) and after pricing rates for one night at Disney hotels (ouch! They are high because it’s a holiday), I decided to book us a hotel room off site. And I did a really good job!

I got us a one bedroom suite at the Holiday Inn at Orange Lake for just $79. I went through Booking.com, but because I am such a savvy shopper I checked to see if I could get cash back from Shop at Home. And I could! They gave me $7 back for booking my reservation. Woo hoo!

We left Birmingham just before 5 am Saturday morning and arrived to Disney World at 3:45 pm cst. So it was 11 hours in the car with the 2 kids. It was ‘fun’. Emily threw up and Jacob got a nosebleed. Luckily neither one got it on their clothes or the vehicle.

By the time we got here we were too exhausted to do anything. Plus I wanted to make sure the kids were well rested so we checked into our hotel, took baths and we were in bed by 7:45 pm est.

This hotel is really nice and huge. We have a really nice room that was really easy to get too. We are about 3-4 miles from the gates of Disney and there is everything on this road. I saw a Target, a mall, a ton of restaurants. This would not be a bad place to stay if you didn’t want to stay onsite at Disney.

Check out our room:

Day 2 of No Dining Out January!

Posted: 02 Jan 2011 02:07 AM PST

Can you go an entire month without going out to eat? What about a week or a day? Can you cut your dining bill by 20%, 50% , 75% or more? That is what I challenge you to do!

At the end of the 30 days, I will choose one winner who will get $50 to spend however they choose!

The rules:

1. You must challenge yourself. Try to spend less than you spend now. If you don’t go out to eat at all, challenge yourself to try new meals this month. As long as you are challenging yourself when it comes to your family’s eating habits, you can participate!
2. You must comment on at least 10 days worth of the discussion posts in order to be eligible to win the gift card.
3. The winner will be chosen at random. It won’t matter if you have been 100% successful or not.
4. You are allowed 1 freebie meal that you don’t have to count or report back to us about. Please report on everything else though so we can encourage and support one another!
5. Free meals do not count against you. This is a challenge to spend less money going out to eat than you usually spend. If someone else is paying for the meal or you have a coupon to make it free, great!
6. Here is a thought… consider keeping a tally of what you would of spent this month. For example, if you really want to go out for breakfast this morning and you resist… write that down! You could then donate that money to a food bank or deposit it into your fund!
7. Be sure to check out our list of casserole recipes here and the crock pot recipes here and the under 6 ingredient recipes here.

How are you doing?

Upromise: It’s time to load your January eCoupons!

Posted: 01 Jan 2011 03:53 PM PST

Upromise is a savings program that rewards you with money for college education. BUT you may also cash out the money you have saved in your Upromise account and receive a check you can deposit into your bank account and spend on anything you want (like a Disney trip)! Just submit this form here.

There are so many ways to earn cash in your Upromise account. The main ways I save is by linking my Winn Dixie card, Publix Upromise card, CVS card, Rite Aid Wellness card, debit and credit cards. When I purchase a Upromise participating product (see the list here) or shop at a Upromise participating merchant, I get credit to my account balance. I currently have $49.22 in my account. I’m going to see how fast I can get that number to $100.

One of the quickest and easiest ways to grow your Upromise balance is by using the Upromise e-coupons. Each month Upromise releases about $40 in coupons that you have to load onto your cards at the Upromise website. When you purchase that item with your Winn Dixie, Publix or CVS card, you receive the equivalent balance of the coupon in your Upromise account.

For example, one current e-coupon on Upromise is $1 off Bounty. If I went to Publix and purchased Bounty and had them scan my Publix Upromise card, I would receive $1 added to my Upromise balance. But what makes it even a better deal, I can still use a coupon at the register on the Bounty and still receive the credit on Upromise!

Here is a current list of all the Upromise coupons available. If you think you might buy these items, go ahead and load the coupons now. They will be good all month!
