HP Plans WebOS Event After CES

Posted: 04 Jan 2011 02:26 PM PST

If you’re concerned that HP and Palm won’t be announcing anything ground breaking at CES 2011, you’ll be happy to know that an event is taking place in San Francisco on February the 9th.

The motto on the event invitation reads “Think big. Think small. Think beyond.” Could this be the next-gen smartphone hardware we’ve been hearing about? Perhaps it’s about a tablet styled device or the public release of developer-only features to WebOS? The sky is the limit when it comes to WebOS, hopefully HP and Palm don’t get clobbered by the suspected lack of presence at CES and are able to get the public re-invigorated and warmed up to WebOS.

After numerous leaks and special appearances, HTC and Sprint have finally unveiled the EVO Shift 4G. The HTC EVO Shift 4G is Sprint's version of the HTC Desire Z or the T-Mobile G2 with some subtle changes. The Shift has a 3.6-inch screen with WVGA (800×480) resolution.

The EVO Shift 4G is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 'Scorpion' CPU running at 800MHz and sports the Adreno 205 GPU. The phone has 512MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM and a microSD card slot with a 2GB card bundled.

The usual Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, microUSB port, 3.5mm jack and a Digital Compass are all present. The back of the handset sports a 5MP camera which is capable of recording 720p HD videos. The handset also has a slide out QWERTY keyboard but without the 'Z' hinge as found in the Desire Z.

The EVO 4G Shift runs on Android 2.2 with the latest version of the HTC Sense UI on top of it. The phone will easily last a couple of days on normal usage since it's powered by a 1500mAh battery.

The HTC EVO Shift 4G will hit the stores on January 9 and will cost $150 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a 2 year contract.
