MMS Settings For Android Handsets: Telenor/ Zong/ Mobilink/ Warid

Just like we promised in our previous post for GPRS settings for Android handsets, here's a complete set of MMS settings for Telenor, Zong, Mobilink and Warid, we couldn't get hold of Ufone's MMS settings for now.

Sorry we took a little while to get this one up, we had to test out the settings and confirm they were working before we could share them with you.

Just like the GPRS settings, MMS settings were possible all because of Haris Nadeem from AndroidPakistan.com, he put in quite a lot of time to make these settings work.

And before you bombard us with questions relating to the settings not working on your Android handset, we tested out MMS on a Nexus One running on Android 2.2 Froyo, Samsung Galaxy S running on Android 2.1 Éclair, HTC Hero running on Android 2.1 Éclair and a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 running on Android 1.6 Donut.

We're assuming that these settings would work on Android 1.5 Cupcake as well, but might not work on every Android handset!

Telenor

Go to Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks >Access Point Names.
Press the 'Menu' key and select "New APN".
Now use the following settings:

Name: MMS (anything you like)
APN: mms
Username: Telenor
Password: Telenor
MMSC: http://mmstelenor or http://mmstelenor (Try both)
MMS Proxy: 172.018.019.011
MMS Port: 8080
MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0 (Only if it asks you)
MCC: 410 (should be there by default)
MNC: 01 (use whatever is there by default)
APN type: mms

You can leave all the other fields blank as they are and save these settings.

Zong

Go to Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks >Access Point Names.
Press the 'Menu' key and select "New APN".
Now use the following settings:

Name: MMS (anything you like)
APN: zongmms
MMSC: http://10.81.6.11:8080
MMS Proxy: 10.81.6.33
MMS Port: 8000
MMS Protocol:: WAP 2.0 (Only if it asks you)
MCC: 410 (should be there by default)
MNC: 01 (use whatever is there by default)
APN type: mms

You can leave all the other fields blank as they are and save these settings.

Mobilink

Go to Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks >Access Point Names.
Press the 'Menu' key and select "New APN".
Now use the following settings:

Name: MMS (anything you like)
APN: mms.mobilinkworld.com
Username: Mobilink
Password: Mobilink
MMSC: http://mms/
MMS Proxy: 172.25.20.12
MMS Port: 8080
MMS Protocol:: WAP 2.0 (Only if it asks you)
MCC: 410 (should be there by default)
MNC: 01 (use whatever is there by default)
APN type: mms

You can leave all the other fields blank as they are and save these settings.

Warid

Go to Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks >Access Point Names.
Press the 'Menu' key and select "New APN".MMS Setting Name Warid

Password: <Not set>
Server: <Not set>

You can leave all the other fields blank as they are and save these settings.

Ufone is missing from the list but we would love to see contributions from you guys as well with a complete set of working settings for MMS for Ufone.

Customer Support is of no help when it comes to Internet or MMS settings. That's why we had to figure out these settings ourselves by looking at MMS and Internet settings from different smartphones and then applying them on Android.

It looks that Telenor has decided to pull back its recent most TV commercial of Internet.More, which came under fire from masses due to its over-expressive nature.

We don't have official words on this yet; however, Telenor's official YouTube page has deleted the ad that showed a guy hunting for a girl on Facebook using Telenor's GPRS.

Telenor is airing a backup TVC on TV channels, which shots a better use of Telenor's GPRS.

As we said, we don't have official words on this matter yet; still, pulling the plug of TVC in question is being termed as positive and sensible response from Telenor's end.

At the same time, now it is evident that said TVC had thematic problems in it.

Please don't consider the 3G aspects of the phone since all networks here in Pakistan are based on 2.5G/EDGE. However, networks here may shift to 3G anytime soon, but it should be considered a far off unconfirmed rumor for now.

From the specs of the HTC Desire you can safely say that this is in deed a tech savvy person's heaven! From a high resolution AMOLED Display to Google's very own Andorid OS to fully customizable homescreens and widgets with complete social network integration, it's a match made in heaven.

But the downside of this phone is that if you want to use it to it's full potential, you should have a good internet plan for the month, the HTC Desire is data hungry if you're using all it's features like Facebook integration, Twitter or syncing your E-mail inboxes regularly.

Our best bet is that you stick with Zong, they have really convenient and very economical internet packages for everyone, prepaid and postpaid both.

Or you can stick to Telenor's Persona Postpaid package, their nationwide EDGE/GPRS connectivity is phenomenal.

Pricing and Availability

If you do some research in the market, the Desire can be purchased for a price in between RS. 45,000 to 52,000 all over Pakistan.

HTC handsets are hard to come by if you're just looking for them in regular shops, and none of them offer warranty for HTC phones even if they carry it by any chance, but here's the best way to get an HTC Desire with warranty; head over to Brightex's website by clicking this link, who are the official HTC handset distributors in Pakistan, they have the HTC Desire for a fair price of RS. 49,000.

Why did I say fair price? Because it comes with a complete one year warranty! If something does go wrong with the phone, at least you'll have someone to go to.

Or the second option is that you head over to HomeShopping.pk and buy the HTC Desire for a price of RS. 44,990. You'll save some money but at the same time you will only get software warranty, it's totally up to you to decide where do you wanna head over to for your brand new HTC Desire.

Conlusion

Hunting down for smartphones is a tough job, many different companies are coming out with smartphones like crazy, most notably Nokia.

There is so much to choose from that you end up buying something which might not completely suit your needs, but the HTC Desire is a complete powerhouse and represents what a smartphone should be, staying connected with your social networks and your friends and family members doesn't get easier than what the HTC Desire has to offer.
