BakrId keeps the spirit alive [SMS Collection]

Bakrid 2010

The Muslim festival of Bakr-Id as it's called in India, also called Eid-ul-Zuha in Arabic keeps the Muslim population in cities abuzz with activity and celebrations. The 12th and the last month of the lunar Islamic calendar Dhu al-Hijjah has its 10th day celebrated as Bakr-Id with much pomp and fervor. BakrId 2010 falls today and all are looking for good Sms to send their loved ones wishing them health and good luck.

This is actually a community affair when goats, rams, camels, sheep, buffalo and other cattle are sacrificed to signify the selflessness and righteousness of Prophet Ibrahim who agreed to sacrifice his own son to Allah to show his obedience. The legend goes that when he could not contain his paternal feeling and blind-folded himself for the act on the Mount Mina near Mecca, Allah obliged and he opened his eyes to find a slaughtered lamb while his son was Ismail was smiling standing beside the altar. Since then the day is celebrated as Id-ul-Zuha. The word 'Id' is derived from Arabic word 'iwd' meaning festival and 'zuha' comes from ‘uzhaiyya’ meaning sacrifice. Muslims tame the goats as their own sons for months and then slaughter them to offer it to Allah. The sacrificial meat is distributed in three parts, first to relatives, second among friends and neighbours while finally the third part goes to the poor people.

Some of the SMSes doing the rounds are:

“Kuch Musarrat Mazeed ho jaye
Is bahane se Eid ho jaye
Eid milne jo Aap aajayein
Meri bhi Bakrid , Bakrid ho jaye”

“Eid leka aate hai dher sare khusiya,
Eid mita deta hai insan mai duriya,
Eid hai khuda ka ek nayam tabarok
Eisi liye kahte hai sab Bakrid MUBARAK.”

“Do you know the Meaning of BAKRID?
I think it means “ENJOY in DUNIYA!!”
So, In your life all moments bring BAKRID for you….
Wish You…BAKRID MUBARAK.”

Enthusiasm and highly spirited buyers of cattle can be seen in the markets as the most important festivals of the muslims is being celebrated on Wednesday. In some markets like Baqaramandi, Babupurwa, Jajmau, Rajbi road and Nai-Sadak in Kanpur are gearing up for the highest bids on the goats. Those with some special marks on their bodies fetch a lot of money.

Movie Review: Natobar Not Out tells about the artist and man inside

Posted: 16 Nov 2010 02:54 AM PST

Natobar Not Out by director Amit Sen, Produced under the banner of Bunch of Buddies Entertainment Pvt Ltd with a star cast of Raima Sen, Ananya Dutta, Kharaj Mukherjee, Ramaprasad Banik and Mustafa Prokash.

This film is not just limited to that Rabindranath Tagore kind of film that is being specially put up because of his 150th birthday. So what is a film maker like Amit Sen upto with Natobar Not Out.

Everything in the movie is so messed up starting from the technical part of the film to the actors who are actually taking up the roles in a very deadly manner. The lead actor playing the part of Natobar is too distinct and usual in his role.

Prokash seems to be going over board just trying his best to portray the character with utter perfection which only seems more than required.

The story of the flick deals with a man named Natobar who in his dreams gets a boon from poet Rabindranath Tagore. After this miracle Natobar's life changes and he goes on to become a copy writer.

When the success overflows he hits a bad time with creditors. Then amidst all this confusion there is a sudden change which brings back all to the normal state.

The performance by actress Raima Sen is all perfect as the girl has proved her mettle. Other small yet highly important roles by actor's aswata Chatterjee, Sudipa Basu and Kaushik Ganguly make an impressive note in the movie. The music of the film is good and the other intricate factors are also well kept.
