Ask the readers: What do you give a large group of people?

Posted: 19 Dec 2010 12:47 PM PST

When you need to give gifts for a large group of people (say all 30 of your co-workers), what do you give them?

This year my friend Kathy made mini pumpkin loaves and attached a cookie cutter to the bread.

I’d love some ideas from you all! I am sure this is something a lot of us have to come up with every year.

What was the best gift you ever received?

Posted: 19 Dec 2010 11:01 AM PST

What is the best gift you have ever received?

For me….. hmmm. Last year my husband surprised me with the mini Kirsten American Girl doll. I had wanted her for as long as I could remember and I was so disappointed that she was being retired. When he went to order her, she was sold out so he went with the mini version instead. The fact that he listened and fulfilled a childhood dream of mine meant so much to me.

What is the best gift that you have ever received? Leave a comment and let me know!  I am going to give one Amazing Couponing to Disney reader $15 to spend on a gift for themselves on Amazon!

Giveaway: Enter to win 1 of 2 Tangled Wii Games!

Posted: 19 Dec 2010 10:06 AM PST

This TV is one of the best bargains ever. It was originally almost $2k, but Walmart had marked it 75% off because it was ‘last year’s model’.

Disney was kind enough to send us a copy of the new Disney Tangled Wii game to try out. Emily and I saw this movie in the theater and LOVED it, so we were excited to be able to play the game together.

She of course was Rapunzel and I got to by Flynn. The point of the game is to navigate all the obstacles to get Rapunzel to see the lights. You get to see all the familiar locations from the movie including the forest, village, Snuggly Duckling and of course her tower.

The game does involve a lot of reading so if your child isn’t able to read well on her own, you are going to have to help them play. I didn’t mind that since it gave me and Emily something fun to do together.

We have not been able to beat the game yet, but we have fun trying. My favorite thing is when Rapunzel knocks the bad guys out with frying pans! I really enjoy this game and I am sure that your family would too!

Disney has also generously given me TWO copies to give to TWO AMAZING Couponing to Disney readers.

This giveaway is being sponsored by Disney. All words and opinions are my own. This giveaway will end on Sunday, December 19th, at 9 pm cst.

What is your favorite gift you have ever given?

Posted: 19 Dec 2010 06:24 AM PST

What has been your favorite gift you’ve given on Christmas?

Mine is a toss up. In 2001, My grandmother mentioned that she had always wanted the police station to complete her Charles Dickens village but could never find it. I went on Ebay and found it for her and surprised her with it. She was blown away. It had been almost 20 years since she had bought her village and she didn’t realize that you could find just about anything on Ebay.

In 2008, My mother in law came to spend Christmas with us (at the time she lived 3 hours and 10 minutes away, now she’s just 10 minutes away). It was her first Christmas since her husband had passed away. I wanted to give her cash for Christmas but I wanted to make it fun. So I put it in a card and then put it in about 11 boxes and wrapped each one. I wrapped the final box with an entire roll of wrapping paper. It took her 15 minutes to get to the card and then I had put a $5 bill on top to make her think she had done all that work for $5. It was awesome to watch her mouth drop open when she realized how much it really was. I got the whole thing on video too!

So what was your favorite gift you have ever given?

I am going to give one Amazing Couponing to Disney reader a special gift I personally pick out for them to open on Christmas morning. This gift will be Disney themed! You have until 9 pm cst to enter.

Day 19 of No Dining Out December

Posted: 19 Dec 2010 05:01 AM PST

Can you go an entire month without going out to eat? What about a week or a day? Can you cut your dining bill by 20%, 50% , 75% or more? That is what I challenge you to do!

At the end of the 30 days, I will choose one winner who will get $50 to spend however they choose!

The rules:

1. You must challenge yourself. Try to spend less than you spend now. If you don’t go out to eat at all, challenge yourself to try new meals this month. As long as you are challenging yourself when it comes to your family’s eating habits, you can participate!
2. You must comment on at least 10 days worth of the discussion posts in order to be eligible to win the gift card.
3. The winner will be chosen at random. It won’t matter if you have been 100% successful or not.
4. You are allowed 1 freebie meal that you don’t have to count or report back to us about. Please report on everything else though so we can encourage and support one another!
5. Free meals do not count against you. This is a challenge to spend less money going out to eat than you usually spend. If someone else is paying for the meal or you have a coupon to make it free, great!
6. Here is a thought… consider keeping a tally of what you would of spent this month. For example, if you really want to go out for breakfast this morning and you resist… write that down! You could then donate that money to a food bank or deposit it into your fund!
7. Be sure to check out our list of casserole recipes here and the crock pot recipes here and the under 6 ingredient recipes here.

My progress:

My hubby went out for lunch. He works retail and it’s the Saturday before Christmas so he had to escape the store. LOL. He spent $7.

How are you doing?

What is the strangest or weirdest gift you or your spouse has received?

Posted: 18 Dec 2010 05:27 PM PST

What is the strangest or weirdest gift you or your spouse got for Christmas?

For me…… In 2006, I was at the company Christmas party and we were playing dirty Santa. Only my boss plays it in style with high dollar gifts. Well I was the second person to go and I got one of those really nice refrigerated wine coolers. And nobody stole it from me! So when my boss asked if we were all happy with our gifts, I burst out into tears! It was so embarrassing. But I was pregnant and I don’t drink and it was something I could never use. Luckily one of the younger guys there was kind enough to exchange it for a portable DVD player.

Which it isn’t really that strange…. but all my friends and family read my blog so it was the best I could do. ;)

One reader to comment with their strange or weirdest gift they have received is going to win something that might or might not be strange from me! It’s a surprise and it will be delivered to your house before Christmas. But you can’t open it until Christmas morning!

To celebrate the Christmas Parade site launch on Disney.com, Disney has generously agreed to give one AMAZING Couponing to Disney reader their own set of Disney movies.

Here’s what you will win:

  • Beauty and the Beast – Set in and around a quaint French village during the late 18th century, Beauty and the Beast follows the fantastic adventures of Belle, a bright and beautiful young woman who finds escape from her ordinary life, and the advances of a boorish suitor, Gaston, by reading books. Meanwhile, off in a castle in the distance, a cruel young prince is cast under the spell of an enchantress who turns him into a tormented beast, while transforming his servants into animated household objects. In order to remove the curse, the Beast must discover a true love who will return his affection before the last petal falls from an enchanted rose. When Belle’s inventor father stumbles upon the Beast’s castle and is taken prisoner, Belle comes to the rescue and agrees to take her father’s place. With the help of the castle’s enchanted staff, she sees beneath the Beast’s exterior and discovers the heart and soul of a human prince.
  • The Sorcerer’s Apprentice - Magic is everywhere in Disney’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice-the fun family adventure from the creators of National Treasure. Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage) is a modern-day sorcerer with his hands full defending Manhattan against dark forces. When a seemingly average kid shows hidden potential, Balthazar takes his reluctant recruit on a crash course in the art and science of magic to become the ultimate sorcerer’s apprentice. Experience more extraordinary thrills, heart-stopping action and spectacular special effects than you can imagine as these unlikely partners show us that the real world is far more magical than we ever knew!
  • Disney’s A Christmas Carol  – From Walt Disney Pictures comes the magical retelling of Charles Dickens' beloved tale — Disney's A Christmas Carol, the high-flying, heartwarming adventure for the whole family, starring Jim Carrey. When three ghosts take penny-pinching Scrooge on an eye-opening journey, he discovers the true meaning of Christmas — but he must act on it before it's too late. Complete with spirited bonus features, this exhilarating and touching Disney classic is destined to be part of your holiday tradition, adding sparkle and heart to all your Christmases yet to come.
  • Disney’s The Search for Santa Paws – A sort of an Annie meets Santa Buddies, The Search for Santa Paws is a musical production that tells the story of how Santa and a young dog named Paws became best friends, and together forever changed the lives of a houseful of New York City orphans and a host of other New Yorkers.
  • Waking Sleeping Beauty - By the mid-1980s, the fabled animation studios of Walt Disney had fallen on hard times. The artists were polarized between newcomers hungry to innovate and old timers not yet ready to relinquish control. These conditions produced a series of box-office flops and pessimistic forecasts – maybe the best days of animation were over. Maybe the public didn’t care. Only a miracle or a magic spell could produce a happy ending. Waking Sleeping Beauty is no fairy tale. It’s the true story of how Disney regained its magic with a staggering output of hits – “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin,” “The Lion King,” and more – over a 10-year period.
  • The Boys: The Sherman Brothers Story - The Boys: The Sherman Brothers' Story is an intimate journey through the lives of Robert B. Sherman and Richard M. Sherman, the astoundingly prolific, Academy Award®-winning songwriting team that defined family musical entertainment for five decades with unforgettable songs like "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocous" from Mary Poppins, "I Wanna Be Like You" from The Jungle Book and the most translated song ever written “It's a Small World (After All)” from the Disneyland attraction.  The feature-length documentary, conceived, produced and directed by two of the songwriters' sons, take audiences behind the scenes of the Hollywood magic factory and offers a rate glimpse of a unique creative process at work.  It also explores a deep and longstanding rift that has kept the brothers personally estranged throughout much of their unparalleled professional partnership
  • Walt & El Grupo – For ten weeks in 1941, Walt Disney, his wife Lilly, and sixteen colleagues from his studio visited nations in Latin America to gather story material for a series of films with South American themes.  The feature documentary film Walt & El Grupo uses this framing device to explore inter-American relations, provide a rare glimpse into the artists who were part of the magic of Disney's "golden age" and give an unprecedented look at the 39 year-old Walt Disney during one of the most challenging times of his entire life.

Reset – *HOT* Coupon – $3 off any Similac Formula

Posted: 18 Dec 2010 03:00 PM PST

Coupons.com has a coupon for $3 off any Similac Formula. Both Walmart and Target have bottles of the ready to feed formula for just $3.86. Making it just a mere 86c after the coupon!

Even if you do not formula feed, I urge you to print the coupon and just stick it on the shelf at your local store by the Similac. Formula is ridiculously expensive and you would make some mother’s day when she finds that coupon. $3 is a lot of money to save. I love coupon fairies.

You can also donate it to your local food bank or woman’s shelter.

Live Nation: $20/$20 purchase – I got 2 Martina MP3 albums for FREE!

Posted: 18 Dec 2010 02:36 PM PST

I am currently listening to the Martina McBride album that I just got for FREE! (I actually got Shine and Timeless.)

Here’s how:

The Live Nation Store is offering $20 off a $20 or more purchase. They have MP3 albums that are FREE with the credit. They have a lot of popular artists to choose from too. I only listen to country…. but I saw Taylor Swift, George Strait, Carrie Underwood and of course Martina.

Add up to $20 worth of MP3 albums to your cart (I added 2 $9.99 albums) and enter the code zildjian20 at checkout. You do not have to enter your credit card info if your subtotal is zero.

Download your free music after purchase and if you have iTunes, you can import it right into iTunes. That’s what I did!
