Built for children ages 5 to 8, the Tailspin will give your little rider years of free-wheeling fun.

Radio Flyer Scoot-About — $23.99
This Classic Radio Flyer Scoot-About is perfect for any toddler looking to ride in style. Day 15 of No Dining Out December

Posted: 15 Dec 2010 04:56 AM PST

Can you go an entire month without going out to eat? What about a week or a day? Can you cut your dining bill by 20%, 50% , 75% or more? That is what I challenge you to do!

At the end of the 30 days, I will choose one winner who will get $50 to spend however they choose!

The rules:

1. You must challenge yourself. Try to spend less than you spend now. If you don’t go out to eat at all, challenge yourself to try new meals this month. As long as you are challenging yourself when it comes to your family’s eating habits, you can participate!
2. You must comment on at least 10 days worth of the discussion posts in order to be eligible to win the gift card.
3. The winner will be chosen at random. It won’t matter if you have been 100% successful or not.
4. You are allowed 1 freebie meal that you don’t have to count or report back to us about. Please report on everything else though so we can encourage and support one another!
5. Free meals do not count against you. This is a challenge to spend less money going out to eat than you usually spend. If someone else is paying for the meal or you have a coupon to make it free, great!
6. Here is a thought… consider keeping a tally of what you would of spent this month. For example, if you really want to go out for breakfast this morning and you resist… write that down! You could then donate that money to a food bank or deposit it into your fund!
7. Be sure to check out our list of casserole recipes here and the crock pot recipes here and the under 6 ingredient recipes here.

My progress:

I took my nephew to McDonald’s. We spent $17 between the 2 of us and Jacob. :-O

How are you doing?

Disney World Training: The Lines App for the Android Phone

Posted: 14 Dec 2010 06:00 PM PST

This is a review by my reader Amanda who has an Android phone.

My family and I are in the process of planning a Disney World vacation for May 2011, and I am actively seeking every sort of guide and tool out there to help me with the daunting task! I recently bought a copy of The Unofficial Guide to Disney World with Small Kids. (Side note: the book is awesome and is focused on young children, which fits my family perfectly since we’ll be visiting with a 1 and 2 year old!) As a perk to buying the book, I was offered a discount to purchasing a one-year subscription to touringplans.com. The normal price is $10.95, but the discounted price was a steal at 50% off!

The Touring Plans website is a huge site that is for another review altogether, so I am going to be focusing on just the Lines app that accompanies the website. I have a Droid smartphone, and I’ve been using this app for four months.

The Touring Plans Lines app is included with your yearly subscription, and it is a favorite of mine. The app gives you up-to-the-minute information on the wait times for each Disney World park. The creators of the app have developed a highly sophisticated formula for calculating the wait times based on historical data and user-submitted information. Since we have not visited Disney World with the app, I am not personally sure of the accuracy, but based on other users’ experiences, the wait times are very close to the actual posted wait times at the attractions, and often, the Lines wait times are less (and more accurate!) than the posted wait times. FASTPASS return times and Single Rider wait times are available for some rides, as well. There are also projections for attraction wait times for the remainder of that day based on historical and user-submitted data.

The Lines app contains more than just wait times. There is also an opportunity for users to view the projected best and worst parks for a specific day. Currently, you can view this information for up to ten days ahead of time. These projections are based on the Touring Plans Crowd Calendars, which have been highly regarded and used by many visitors for years.

If you’re the competitive-type, you also have an opportunity to earn various badges for submitting wait times. These badges range from posting just one wait time to posting a wait time for at least one attraction in all four major parks in one day. You can accumulate badges and attempt to become the top-submitted user for a particular attraction.

While wait times and crowd projections will be helpful for me when we visit in May, the most useful tool of the Lines app for me thus far has been the Chat feature. At any time during the day, you can go into the Chat section of the app and post a question or thought that is Disney-related. Within no time at all, you will get responses from other Disney fans. Many of the users frequent the Lines Chat, and they have been visiting Disney World for years. Their advice and information has been a valuable tool for me while planning my upcoming vacation. Sometimes it can be daunting to jump into chatting with strangers, but this forum-type chat allows you to post at your own pace and choose which threads to reply to. From my experience, all of the users are incredibly friendly and helpful. They love all things related to Disney World and are eager to give you advice on anything – from what type of room to request at a Disney hotel to the best desserts to be found in various parks.

I highly recommend you look into the Lines app if you are planning an upcoming trip to Disney World. The price for the Touring Plans subscription is a bargain, considering all of the useful tools that are included with the membership. I visit the Lines app on a daily basis to check on wait times and chat with fellow users. The guys at Touring Plans stand by their information and features so much that they offer a 45-day money back guarantee. To me, it’s a win-win situation that all Disney-lovers should check out!

Disney Decorated Home

Posted: 14 Dec 2010 06:00 PM PST

These pictures are courtesy of my friend over at The Frugal Free Gal:

I am currently visiting my mother in laws house and these are her decorations. I did help out with the tree this year. We also had a Disney treat skirt from the Disney store but we are having problems with the kitty cat if you know what I mean! There are probably about 30 or more Disney ornaments on there but I took a picture of a select few. The office is all Disney theme, too. Enjoy the photos.

Amazon.com Melissa and Doug Magnetic Responsibility Chart for $9.99!

Posted: 14 Dec 2010 01:35 PM PST

One of the best things I have in my home to keep my 6 year old’s attitude in line is our Melissa & Doug Deluxe Magnetic Responsibility Chart.

It has 8 sections for you to choose chores/responsibilities for your child. Each time they successfully do one, they get to put a reward magnet in the appropriate square on the magnetic board. (There is one for each day of the week).

We take ours a step further and I put up 8 reward magnets on the last line (instead of putting a chore). If she whines, she takes down a magnet. Once she takes down all 8, she looses something of value to her. That really helps with the whining in our house!

Melissa & Doug Deluxe Magnetic Responsibility Chart on Amazon is $9.99 and ships free if you are an Amazon mom.
