Motorola Cliq 2 Leaked Pics Emerge

The leaked pics of Motorola’s upcoming Android device, Cliq 2 have been spotted in the wild. This handset is powered by the Android 2.2 (FroYo) operating system and it will be exclusively available on the airwaves of T-Mobile in the US. The complete features and specification of this handset is still unknown, but the Android powered Cliq 2 is expected to come with a 5 megapixel camera, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi calling, MicroSD card slot, FM Radio, 3.5mm audio jack and more.

This handset is expected to be announced at CES and it will be available from January 19th. The guys at TmoNews recently shared a few pics of this device. Check out the leaked pics of Motorola Cliq 2 below.

Samsung Wave To Get Bada 1.2 Update In Early 2011

Samsung Wave is the first Bada OS powered smartphone. This handset is already a huge hit worldwide. Samsung managed to sell 2 million units of this powerful smartphone. Now we have a good news or all the original Wave users. Samsung recently tweeted from their Bada's official twitter account that, the Bada 1.2 update will be available for all the Wave users by early next year.

Samsung Wave features a 3.3 inch Super AMOLED display, 1GHz processor, BADA operating system, 5 megapixel camera with HD (720p) video recording, 3G Connectivity, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, microSD memory card slot, 32GB expandable memory, 3.5mm audio jack, Built-in GPS receiver and much more.

Samsung Wave is quite popular in Europe and it is one of the best selling phones in France, Germany and Austria. The Bada 1.2 update will be first available to Europen Wave users in early 2011 and Wave users in rest of the world will receive it in Q1 of 2011. The Bada 1.2 update comes with bug fixes, improved security, T9 Trace keyboard and so on.

Android Has Over 200,000 Apps In Android Market

An unofficial app tracker for , Android Lib stats suggest that there are now over 200,000 apps in the Android Market. This brings the Android Market on par or at-least near to the number of apps carried by rival; Apple, in their app store.

The latest stats on Android Lib show that there are now over 200K apps and games in the Android market. If this is true, this is definitely a phenomenal growth for the Android Market over the past two year. However, there are several people out there who doubt the viability of the apps in the Android market.

After I tweeted about the stats, several users began complaining that most of the apps are either bad or crash. However, the same can also be said about the apps in Apple’s app store. Majority of the apps in the app store are just there for numbers, most of them are practically useless. This trend though does not apply to a single app store and is common throughout every store out there.

Coming back more to the stats, the development of new apps for Android has definitely grown in the past year, with the past 3 months seeing almost 70,000 new apps and games being added to the market. Also, out of the 200K+ apps, 180K+ apps were added in 2010.

The app store milestone adds to the earlier milestone of over 300,000 Android devices being activated everyday. However, there is no official data out there to corroborate either of these milestones.

Take this information with a pinch of salt. These numbers may be inflated and we are trying to do our best to find out other sources to confirm this information.

LG Launches C310 Dual SIM QWERTY Phone

LG recently launched a new entry level QWERTY phone – the LG C310. This handset comes with basic features such as 2.4 inch QVGA display, 2MP camera, MicroSD card slot and so on. LG C310 looks much similar to the C300 handset, but C310 has Dual SIM (GSM+GSM) capabilities.

LG C310 features a 2.4 inch QVGA display with 240 x 320 pixels resolution, QWERTY keypad, 2 megapixel camera, GPRS/EDGE, Wi-Fi Connectivity, 3.5mm headset jack, stereo Bluetooth, MicroUSB 2.0, Music Plyer, FM Radio, 200 MB internal memory, MicroSD card slot, up to 6 hours talk-time, up to 408 hours stand-by time and more.

LG C310 candybar phone comes with a price tag of $200. This handset is currently available only in New Zealand and it is expected to be available in other countries soon.

Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.2 Update Imminent In The United States

Samsung has been slowly rolling out the Android 2.2 Froyo update for its Galaxy S series all over the world including Canada and India. The update roll out has not been a smooth one and Samsung had to pull back its Android 2.2 update in many regions due to buggy firmwares.

However, Samsung has been totally ignoring the 3 million plus Galaxy S variants owners in the United States until now. The company has not even mentioned when they will be rolling out the update in the States.

However, now it looks like Sammy is all set to roll out the update for three of the Galaxy S variants – the Vibrant, Epic 4G and the Fascinate – in the States. Only the AT&T branded Galaxy S variant Captivate and the dual-screen Samsung Continuum are left out from this Froyo party.

The U.S product pages of all the three handsets mentioned before have been updated by Samsung to show that they are running on Android 2.2. The only thing left now for Samsung is to officially roll out the Android 2.2 update for the handsets. Hopefully, all the Galaxy S variants in the U.S will get their Froyo update by January 2011.

HTC Desire HD Android 2.2.1 Update Rolling Out Now

HTC is rolling out a software update for the recently released Desire HD. Sadly; the OTA update is not an Android 2.3 Gingerbread update as many Desire HD owners are hoping for. The OTA software update bumps the Android version on the handset to 2.2.1 and brings with it performance improvements and bug fixes. The OTA update weighs in at 40MB and will up the software version on the HD to 1.72.405.3.

The update reportedly improves the general performance as well as the camera performance of the device. Apparently, the quality of the 720p HD recording has improved as well. HTC is also rolling out another software update for the HTC Desire which bumps the software version to 2.29.405.2. The software update brings the latest version of Android Market along with some speed improvements.

HTC still has not mentioned on when they will be rolling out the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for all its handsets. Hopefully, the company will release the Gingerbread handsets for most of its popular handsets before Q1 of 2011 ends.

Download Android 3.0 Honeycomb Music Player For Your Android Handset

Andy Rubin had stated during the Google I/O event this year that the Android 3.0 update will completely change the UI of Android to make it look more beautiful and pleasing to the eye. Back then, he had also shown off the brand new Music Player which will be bundled with Android 3.0 (Honeycomb). Now, XDA member johnie93 has somehow managed to get his hands on the APK file of the Honeycomb music player.

Readers can download the APK file from here. Transfer this APK file to your Android handset and install it to get the Honeycomb music player on your handset.

The Music Player worked perfectly on my Samsung Galaxy S running a custom ROM based on Android 2.2.1. The application also supports music streaming from the Gmail account linked to your Android handset (Google Music incoming?). The UI of the music app is pretty good as well but nothing stellar. The desktop widget is a bit bland for my taste with no album art support.

It also looks like the Music Player will support Wireless Sync. As of now, the feature does not work. Also, sometimes the app would get excessively slow while playing back music. The app also FC'ed (Force Close) a couple of times for the short span of time I used it.

Nevertheless, I am pretty sure that this is a beta version of the music player. Google still has a lot of time to improve and tweak the performance of the application and perhaps include an equalizer as well.
