Google Pushes Out Android 2.3 Source Code To Repositories

Posted: 17 Dec 2010 01:09 PM PST

With the recent availability of Android 2.3 aka Gingerbread on official Google handsets such as the Nexus S, Google has also gone ahead and pushed out the 2.3 source code to their repositories. Jean-Baptiste, one of the software engineers with the Android Open-Source Project, has stated that once the development branch that Google engineers use is mirrored, Gingerbread is going to merge with master and will be out there for the taking. Expect to see many more customizations and home-cooked ROMs that feature Android 2.3 and all the new updates and software, once developers pull down their copy and start hacking on it.

Microsoft’s Connector For Mac And Windows Phone 7 Gets An Update

Posted: 17 Dec 2010 12:50 PM PST

Do you have a shiny new Windows Phone 7 device? How about an Apple computer? If you answered yes to those questions, you're probably going to want to download the latest update to the Windows Phone 7 Mac Connector from Microsoft – which is currently still in beta. It's deemed "critical" and includes numerous fixes and features, among them would be the ability to synchronize any music that you've purchased on your device and the ability to browse files stored on your device. Be sure to check for any available updates (if you're not automatically prompted) or download and install it on your own from Microsoft's official page.

Best Mobile Apps Of the Week for iOS, Android and Symbian – #3

Posted: 17 Dec 2010 12:50 PM PST

Welcome to our third edition of the Best Mobile Apps Of The Week. This week we would like to introduce our readers to a very popular Twitter app for the iOS as well as for Android.  Along with that, we would introduce our readers to a very popular VOIP client for Symbian.

Here are the featured mobile apps of the week for , and :

Twitter (iOS)

for /  is the official twitter client from the company itself – Twitter. The app has a very slick UI and I especially love the 'sliding panels' UI feature in Twitter for iPad. The app also supports push notifications and inline media display. I have been using Twitter for iPad right on my iPad since the day it was launched. The app literally blows the competition away!

Twitter_for_iPad

iOS owners can download Twitter For iPad/iPhone from the App Store for free.

Skype (Symbian)

Skype is one of the most popular VOIP services out there. The company also has an official Skype client for all the major mobile OS including Symbian. Skype for Symbian allows users to make free calls to other Skype users anywhere in the world for free via Wi-Fi or 3G. It also allows Skype owners to chat for free.

Skype_Symbian

The company recently rolled out an updated version of Skype which supports the latest generation of Symbian phones like the Nokia N8, C7 and E5. The update also added 'SILK' – Skype's own audio codec which helps improves voice quality on a low-bandwidth connection. Symbian owners can download Skype for their handset for free from here.

TweetDeck (Android)

is one of the most popular third party Twitter client for Windows. The app is also available for other major mobile platforms including Android. The Android version of TweetDeck has a great looking UI and functions really well. I personally switched to TweetDeck and have been using it ever since on my Galaxy S since the day it was released.

Tweetdeck_Android

The application also supports other major social networking sites like Facebook, Google Buzz and Foursquare. The application however does lack some features like no support for creating lists, no auto-fill while entering @username and some totally useless widgets. However, I am pretty sure the folks behind TweetDeck for Android will fix all these issues sooner than later. Android owners can download TweetDeck for free from the Android Market.

HTC Aria Gets the Android 2.2 Froyo OTA Update

Posted: 17 Dec 2010 07:20 AM PST

The HTC Aria is quite unremarkable compared to the other Android smartphones, but it is still quite a decent budget option. With HTC officially announcing the Android 2.2 Froyo update for the Aria, it may become slightly more appealing to new users.

HTC has announced a new FOTA update for all HTC Aria users, which can be downloaded directly on your phone. Your phone will receive a notification using which you can install the update. Remember to back up your data before the update.

You can check if the update has been successful by checking the build number – Menu > Settings > About Phone > Software Information > Build number. It should be 2.37.708.5.

This update is only for the unlocked version of the Aria, the locked version update schedule may vary depending on your carrier.

Leaked: LG B, Slimmest Android Phone with a Superb Display

Posted: 17 Dec 2010 07:02 AM PST

After the LG Optimus 2X, the dual core Android smartphone by LG, yet another Android phone by LG has been leaked. It is the second impressive device that LG will launch in 2011, probably at CES.

It is a very slim phone, slimmer than both the Apple iPhone 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S. Another feather in its cap: its 4 inch display is supposedly better than both the iPhone 4′s Retina display and the Galaxy S’ Super AMOLED display. It is both brighter and more power efficient than the other displays.

With the success of the LG Optimus One, and the hype surrounding the LG Optimus 2X and now the LG B, LG is finally getting its fair share of the limelight in the mobile press.
