| Happy 10th Anniversary, Wikipedia! Posted: 15 Jan 2011 06:35 PM PST It wasn't all that long ago (May 2007, to be exact) that Middlebury College made national news for apparently "banning Wikipedia." It turned out to be less juicy a story than that, but there really had been a number of years where colleges and high schools were insisting that students could not use Wikipedia as a source and some were automatically discounting the contribution to Wikipedia to world culture. I am proud to say that HASTAC was among the first academic organizations to not only endorse the unfolding global knowledge-making network that is Wikipedia, but many of us were wondering out loud what kind of educators wouldn't be excited by such a concept, let alone the reality. |
