“Couponing to Disney” success / inspirational stories part 1

Posted: 15 Jan 2011 11:44 AM PST

This first featured inspirational story comes from my friend Danni:

I owe alot of how I started to you. I was turning 40 this year and all last year i kept telling my hubby we were going to Disney when i turned 40, wasn’t sure how but determined to go. So i got on the computer last October and started looking for ways to save. I just googled “Couponing to Disney” and your site came up. I looked at it and thought well if i keep her site and watch the sells then maybe I would get there. I started going to your site regularly. Mostly went to Walmart and Target. Then I watched your videos on Cvs and Walgreens. So I decided how to teach myself those stores. Once i learned the game i became addicted. Over the course of the year you and other bloggers such as Couponingtodisney.com, Dealseekingmom.com, Couponkatarina.com, Savingabundle.com and Mymemphismommy.com were the sites I checked on a daily basis, I then added a few more but not many. If I hadn’t googled couponing to disney last year i probably never would have started the coupon game! I was fan 800 and something when i found your site last year. I’m excited to still be checking out your site this year.

Here is a pic of my hubby and I with Goofy at Disne:

We will probably save and go every 2-3 years (we don’t have kids) not sure what our next trip adventure will be yet but we are saving. I have a feeling next year we really are going to be saving for floors and tree cutting more than anything.

If you are “Couponing to Disney” or “Couponing to Whatever“, and you have an inspirational story to share, please post it below or feel free to email it to me. I would love to feature it on Couponing to Disney!

Disney Week in Review 1.15.10

Posted: 15 Jan 2011 08:39 AM PST

Presented by Chip & Co

We have reached the end of another busy Disney week so it’s time for the Chip and Company Disney Week In Review! Each week we present dozens and dozens of news articles as well as some outstanding articles representing the experiences and views of our incredible writing staff. Let’s start with some really HOT news (silly reference intended):

  • Anonymouse has had a busy week reporting some of the news surrounding the Enchanted Tiki Room fire (see above HOT reference) in his/her article Disney Confidential – Enchanted Tiki Room Catches Fire and followed up with the sad news in Disney Confidential: Iago Is Dead.
  • A true American Hero was honored at Disneyland this week. No matter what your opinion of the military, war, or anything else of that nature Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta represents the best of what America has to offer and is a true Hero by any definition. Read about the honor he paid to Disneyland by attending the special day they set aside for him in Disneyland Resort Salutes United States Army Medal of Honor Recipient. Thank you Sergeant Giunta and thanks to all the members of our military and their families for what they do.
  • Since we are talking about the Disneyland Resort, our Disneyland Specialist (she likes it when I call her that) Jessica has given us a terrific update with lots of photos covering the official removal of the California Adventure letters. You can see the latest at California Adventure Letters Officially Removed.
  • Chip has added another website to his looooong list of favorites. The site is called Disney Detectives and is an incredible resource that collects all the news out there about Disney. Give the site a look here.
  • Chris has had a busy week and wants us all to give a listen to the latest Mouse Chat Podcast. Her article Check Out The Newest Mouse Chat Podcast gives you all the details. She also put together a synopsis of the latest discounts for all of the various Disney venues in Check Out Disney’s Latest Discounts. Thanks for doing that Chris, it’s great to have all that information in one place.
  • Nancy just got back from here latest trip to her (and our) favorite place. Even though she has had numerous visits she and her family got to try a lot of new things this time. If you look at Surprise! New Experiences on our Disney World Vacation you will see why even the most experienced travelers never tire of Walt Disney World.
  • We know that a lot of you folks need a stroller or strollers when you visit Walt Disney World. There are options, but Lisa has come up with one that is not only a money saver but incredibly convenient. She gives you the details and pays tribute to the company that proved to be her stroller savior in Orlando Stroller Rentals To The Rescue.
  • Our Fact Machine Jess continues to come up with everything you need to know about yet another Walt Disney World attraction. In her article, Guide To WDW – Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover she gives us some history and tips for enjoying this attraction. Thanks Jess, we Oldies like this attraction!!
  • Not all Disney News is good news. Once again an apparently silly decision by an official of government has had an impact on the life of a totally innocent young child. Check out Boy has Disney World trip ruined after U.S. Immigration rules him a threat and make your own decision.
  • Mike has been playing with another new app on his Christmas toy and gives us a great review of it in his article, Review:Walt Disney World Secrets Gold! 1.5. If he keeps getting techier and techier on us he might need to be considered for Deekdom!!!!!
  • Leezer has a couple of good things going for him this week. He has a great article on The Curse of the Disney Movie Sequel and he and his wife have been married for 21 years – congrats from all of us!!!
  • Aljon is showing that he has an incredible addiction to Star Wars (as well as a very tolerant wife) in his article called Something New For The Ladies. And yet, more Star Wars from Aljon; collectors, enjoy the information in Luke Skywalker – Jedi Knight Premium Format Figure.
  • Allie poses the question To Downtown Disney or Not? I’m with you Allie, when flight schedules cooperate we are also bookenders. Downtown Disney is a great place to get you in the mood at the beginning and settle you down at the end of your visit.
  • Jennifer, our resident runner, has a fantastic article Running With The Disney Heroes. I won’t spoil it for you but it tells the story of what some former Disney Marathoners stationed in Iraq did this year. Enjoy!!
  • I can’t forget the Boss!! Chip did an update on an earlier article about Droid apps. Check it out at Five must-have Droid Apps For Your Next Disney Trip. See what works and doesn’t work before you buy!!!
  • Traveling this month? Our pals at Character Central give you all of the information you need in Disney Character Updates And News For January 2011. Check out the Character Central website when you get a chance – it’s incredible!!
  • There are days when you just don’t have the time to log on and check out Chip and Company. We understand and we do forgive you but if you subscribe to our newsletter the News and Views come directly to your e-mail in box and you don’t miss a thing. All of the details can be found at Have Disney News and Views delivered to your inbox.
  • A bit more news has surfaced on the upcoming Lone Ranger movie. I was around for the original TV series as a kid but the people who are putting this one together at Disney should have a winner before it’s out of the box. The Producer, Director, and Star have worked together before. See who they are in Hi-Yo Silver! Disney’s Lone Ranger Movie.
  • My Oldies article this week addresses an attraction that we sometimes walk by but shouldn’t. If you read Oldies But Goodies – Don’t Pass Up Epcot’s United States Pavilion you’ll see why. I like to talk about the attractions that sometimes get missed so here’s another one – Best Things I Love About Disney – The ‘Friendship’ Boats.

It has been another busy week and these are just a few of the items that were highlighted at Chip and Company this week. Visit us daily (or subscribe to the newsletter) so you don’t miss anything. As always, Enjoy your visit to Walt Disney World! – Ken

Day 15 of No Dining Out January

Posted: 15 Jan 2011 05:43 AM PST

Can you go an entire month without going out to eat? What about a week or a day? Can you cut your dining bill by 20%, 50% , 75% or more? That is what I challenge you to do!

At the end of the 30 days, I will choose one winner who will get $50 to spend however they choose!

How can this help you “Coupon to Disney?”

  • Take a look at your current dining out budget. How much did you spend last month going out to eat? That is money that could of gone into your fund instead! Try cutting your out to eat costs this month and adding the difference to your fund.
  • Set a weekly dining out budget, if you resist going out to eat, add that amount to your fund instead.
  • If you were seriously about to go out to eat (like had your coat on and was going out the door or pulled into the drive thru and then pulled back out), add the amount you would of spent to your fund.
  • Going out to eat and using a coupon or paying with a gift card? You could add that amount to your fund too. For example… if you had a $25 gift card to Cracker Barrel and you used it, you could take $25 cash out of your budget and add it to the fund. Or if you used a $10 coupon, you could take $10 cash out of the budget and add it to the fund.
  • Be sure to read my Couponing to Disney training series.

The rules:

  • You must challenge yourself. Try to spend less than you spend now. If you don’t go out to eat at all, challenge yourself to try new meals this month. As long as you are challenging yourself when it comes to your family’s eating habits, you can participate!
  • You must comment on at least 10 days worth of the discussion posts in order to be eligible to win the cash.
  • The winner will be chosen at random. It won’t matter if you have been 100% successful or not.
  • You are allowed 1 freebie meal that you don’t have to count or report back to us about. Please report on everything else though so we can encourage and support one another!
  • Free meals do not count against you. This is a challenge to spend less money going out to eat than you usually spend. If someone else is paying for the meal or you have a coupon to make it free, great!
  • Be sure to check out our list of casserole recipes here and the crock pot recipes here and the under 6 ingredient recipes here.

My update

Hubby and I went on a lunch date. Our meal was comped by the manager, so all we paid was the tip.

How are you doing?

Check out what is in Sunday’s paper today

Posted: 14 Jan 2011 03:39 PM PST

There will be a 2 inserts in this Sunday’s paper.

When you are getting started couponing, it can be hard to know how many papers to purchase. I’ve always suggested purchasing at least 4 papers. This is because when items go on sale buy one, get one free you will have enough coupons to get 2 deals.

I have also heard people suggest that you get one paper per person in your household plus an extra paper. So if you have 4 family members, you would buy 5 papers.

You can also read through the comments on this post to find out how many papers my readers buy and why.

Office Depot: 25 FREE 4×6 prints (must order online by Saturday)

Posted: 14 Jan 2011 01:50 PM PST

Office Depot is offering 25 FREE 4×6 prints (who knew they printed photos??) if you use this coupon by January 15th.

But you can also order them online for free. Just order them by 1/15 and pick it up by 2/1:

  • Go here and click on "Order Prints & Enlargements"
  • Follow the instructions to upload your pictures and select pick up the prints in any Office Depot store
  • Print this coupon and present this coupon and present it when you pick it up (make sure you pick them up by 2/1)

There are often offers for free coupons or prints. I suggest that you make a new folder on your computer of all the pictures you want to print (just copy them into this folder so they will be located on 2 places on your computer). As these offers come out, print the ones in the folder and then remove them from the folder. Doing this now will save you time later!
