iOS Game Center Hacked Through Cydia App HackCenter

Posted: 15 Jan 2011 10:25 AM PST

iOS Game CenterWhen   came out, one of the most interesting things to be introduced was the Game Center. Game Center provided game developers with a centralized way to track scores and show top scorers for any game that integrated with it.

Now, each and every user who plays games on their or would definitely want to be on the top of the list so that they can brag about it to their friends. However, that required users to be exceptionally well at games they played.

Now, you can put all those efforts aside thanks to a new app in Cydia store called Hack Center. This new app allows users to submit any score to the Game Center. So you can easily beat anyone at the top of the league with this app and then brag about it to everyone.

iOS Game Center Leaderboard

This app will only work on jailbroken iPhone which has the Cydia app installed. Considering the number of jailbroken iPhone’s out there, it will now be really hard to trust all those Game Center top scorer listings any more. You can watch a video of the HackCenter app in action below (courtesy 9to5Mac). Click here if you can’t watch the video.

Would you prefer to cheat your way and add a fake score using HackCenter? Would you be able to trust the Game Center score boards anymore? Do let me know through your comments.

Voodoo Sound Takes Your Galaxy S Music Quality To Another Level

Posted: 15 Jan 2011 08:42 AM PST

The Samsung Galaxy S series of handsets have been selling like hot cakes all over the world. However, the phones have their share of issues including poor GPS signal and 'lag' or 'stalling' issue. The modding community at XDA came up with many different 'lag fixes' but all these fixes had one issue or another.

However, one of the most talented developers in the Samsung Galaxy S modding scene – Supercuriocompletely fixed the lag issue with his 'Voodoo kernel'. Now, supercurio has come up with another awesome mod for the Galaxy S series of handsets – Voodoo sound. The Galaxy S handsets are using a Wolfson WM8994 Sound CODEC which is one of the best audio chipsets for smartphones.

However, Samsung did not take the full advantage of the CODEC and wrote a badly coded driver for the chip, which is typical of them. Being a music junkie that supercurio is- he started working on improving the music quality of the Galaxy S devices.

VoodooApp

The result – Voodoo sound. He released the first version of the mod a few days ago. The first version of Voodoo sound allows users to increase the 'analog' sound level by using the Voodoo App. By increasing the 'analog' sound level, users will get the best SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) and the lowest hiss possible while playing music on their phone.

Along with this, the first version of Voodoo sound also improves the FM audio quality and the bass on the Galaxy S by a huge margin.

I will suggest all Galaxy S owners to try out the Voodoo sound mod. They simply need to flash any kernel out there for the Galaxy S which has the Voodoo sound patch integrated. They can find tons of tutorials over at the XDA forums on how to flash a kernel on the Galaxy S.

Nokia N8 PR1.1 Firmware Leaks

Posted: 15 Jan 2011 08:37 AM PST

Last year, Nokia launched its first Symbian^3 based handset – the Nokia N8. The phone was heavily criticized for its poor web-browser, outdated UI and its disastrous text input system. Nokia had promised that they will release a new firmware for the N8 in January or early February which will improve some of the heavily criticized aspects of the phone.

Now, reports are coming in that the PR1.1 (v13.015) firmware for the N8 is under the final stages of testing before being rolled out to the public.

However, some folks over at the DailyMobile.se forums have managed to get their hands on this upcoming firmware for the N8. The PR1.1 firmware was listed on NaviFirm from where many users downloaded and flashed it on their N8. One user has even posted a video of the firmware in action on the N8.

Here is the video of PR1.1 firmware running on the Nokia N8-:

Users who flashed the firmware on their handset are reporting an improved browser performance and a more responsive music player. The overall performance of the handset and the RAM management have also improved. The Gallery app on the phone also seems to work a bit smoothly now.

Even though the browser performance has improved, it still crashes intermittently. Readers can also find a video of the browser speed test on the Nokia N8 running PR1.1 firmware here.

Nokia has promised more changes for the N8 including UI updates along with a web browser and text input overhaul in the upcoming firmware updates.
