It has a variety of supporters (who are interested in job creation and North American energy development) and a variety of opponents (who mainly oppose development of an energy resource that has a relatively high environmental impact). |
Rapid Detection of Eruptions at Remote Volcanoes Posted: 23 Dec 2010 09:26 PM PST The University of Washington has developed a system that can detect eruptions at remote volcanoes long before they are spotted by satellites. Detection is based upon the occurrence of volcanic lightning that often accompanies eruption plumes. This early detection will improve the safety of airline traffic that passes near remote volcanoes. |
