Prepare Yourself Mentally to Sell Your Home

Posted: 24 Dec 2010 07:52 AM PST

Earlier this week we talked about how as you prepare your home to sell, it may be necessary to de-personalize to sell fast.

Before and as you do de-personalize the space, you also have to put some mental distance between yourself and the home as well. In fact, some people may find that their emotions really hit as they attempt to get the house ready for sale because removing personal items will make their eventual departure even more real.

Saying Goodbye
Even when you have moved forward with selling your home, you may still feel attached to it. Decide that you want to let go of your home, rather than spending a lot of time focusing on memories that are attached to that home. If you need to, go through and say farewell to all of the rooms. It sounds a little silly, but it may actually help you through the process of separating yourself from the property.

Seeing the Future
Once you have said goodbye, try to imagine yourself happily handing the keys over, ready to move on. Again, this will help you so that when the time actually arrives, you are ready. It will also help because positive thinking about a sale will cause you to do what you need to do to make it happen.
