Deadly Volcanoes in Papua New Guinea Need Monitoring

Papua New Guinea has about six million residents and sixteen very active volcanoes. These volcanoes are capable of erupting with very little warning and have repeatedly killed thousands of people. Rabi Narayan Gaudo, a United Nations Development Programme project manager, believes that the government needs to step up with the resources needed to monitor them properly.

Tyrannosaurus rex: Ancestors Were Wimpy Vegetarians

Scientists at Chicago’s Field Museum of Natural History report that ancestors of Tyrannosaurus rex were not fierce meat eaters with big teeth. Instead they were vegetarians with beaks!

Alvin Gets an Upgrade to 21,000 Feet

Built in 1964, the human operated submarine Alvin, became famous for locating a hydrogen bomb in the Mediterranean Sea in 1966 and exploring the wreck of the Titanic in 1986. It can currently dive to about 14,000 feet but it is being upgraded for even deeper dives.
