13-point buck shot in Portage, third deer-poaching incident reported

Portage police say they responded to a third incident of deer poaching earlier this month when a 13-point buck was found dead near the intersection of Lovers Lane and Winters Drive.

After 38 years with what is now the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment and two years with Michigan State University, 61-year-old wildlife biologist John Lerg is retiring Thursday.
