iPhone Heading to Verizon

Posted: 11 Jan 2011 12:28 PM PST

It is officials, the iPhone is heading to Verizon. Current iPhone users will not be able to switch networks without switching phones. I think Apple made a strategic blunder waiting as long as they have. They gave Droid time to get a foothold, and would have had a much better Verizon debuts if they had not waited so long.

"Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless mobile provider, announced Tuesday that it will offer Apple's wildly popular iPhone to its nearly 100 million customers, breaking four years of exclusivity by arch-rival AT&T.

Verizon's iPhone launch will intensify the already ferocious competition raging in the mobile phone market between the iPhone, Research in Motion's Blackberry line of devices, and handsets powered by Google's Android mobile operating system."

They must either be having or anticipating some serious trouble in that town.

"The Board of Education will vote Wednesday on a plan to randomly test sixth, seventh and eighth graders to see if they are under the influence of drugs. School administrators said they were confident the proposal would pass.

Elementary School Principal Sandra Szabocsik said school officials want to use the testing "as a deterrent.""

6,000 Year Old Wine Press Found

I think a good red wine would enhance a pterodactyl steak.

Just kidding; everyone knows that humans and dinosaurs were not around at the same time. That is because dinosaurs never roamed the earth...

"Archeologists have unearthed the oldest wine-making facility ever found, using biochemical techniques to identify a dry red vintage made about 6,000 years ago in what is now southern Armenia.
...
Carbon dating showed a desiccated grape vine found near a wine press was grown around 4000 BC, his team reported.

This makes it 1,000 years older than any other wine-making facility discovered, the team from Armenia, the United States and Ireland reported.
...
The wine press would have held a few gallons of juice and crushed grapes, likely working with the time-honored technique of barefoot stomping, Areshian said."

Boehner (R) to Continue Flying Commercial

I think this sets the correct tone. It would have looked pretty bad to change his mind, even with the 'fig leaf' of security. Had the shooting over the weekend been part of some larger attempt to destroy Congress it would be different, but that does not appear to be the case.

"Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) will continue to fly commercially despite the security concerns that came about after Saturday's shooting in Tucson, Ariz.

Boehner's spokesman Michael Steel told The Hill that the Speaker had no intention to reconsider a decision he previously made to forgo the use of a private jet for transportation to and from his Ohio district."
