Samsung SCH-i520 “4G LTE Smartphone” Showcased by Verizon Posted: 06 Jan 2011 09:14 PM PST Word about a Samsung 4G LTE smartphone headed to Verizon had leaked out some time back, but until Verizon’s conference at CES, we didn’t know much about it. Well, it was showcased at CES as just that – “Samsung 4G LTE smartphone”. It is powered by a 1 GHz processor and comes with Android 2.2 Froyo. It offers LTE connectivity and will be rolled out with the LG Revolution and the HTC Thunderbolt. Windows Phone 7 To Get Update In January? Posted: 06 Jan 2011 09:08 AM PST It’s no surprise that Windows Phone 7 was let out the gate with a few essential smartphone features missing, most notably being copy and paste. Well, during a CES keynote, Steve Ballmer indicated that an update would be available soon, but anybody who digs a little deeper would see that Microsoft has a “Windows Phone 7 Updates” page that shows January right in ASP document file name plain as day – http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/features/january-update.aspx In addition to bringing copy and paste, the next update will include better filtering and searching for apps and games in the Marketplace as well as speed optimisations to continue “getting you to the things you love, easier and faster.”. Thanks to the built-in update mechanism in Windows Phone 7, your device will automatically notify you of an update when it becomes available. Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Will NOT Get Android 2.2 Update Posted: 06 Jan 2011 08:35 AM PST Sony Ericsson UK has confirmed that the Xperia X10, X10 Mini, X10 Mini Pro and the X8 won't be getting the Android 2.2 update after all. This news is definitely not going to please all the Xperia owners out there. However, Sony Ericsson says that the Xperia X10 and its other siblings will get many other enhancements via software update. Sony Ericsson has already stated that they will release a software update for the X10 in Q1 of 2011 which will bring multi-touch support to the handset. Apparently, Sony Ericsson will also release another update which will add new functionalities to the MediaScape and TimeScape UI of the handset. However, X10, X10 Mini Pro, X10 Mini and X8 users now need to look at the Custom ROM scene for their handset to get Android 2.2 or Android 2.3 running on their handset. Android 2.4 Peeps Out of a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc Posted: 06 Jan 2011 07:49 AM PST The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc was announced just yesterday at CES 2011, and is truly a magnificent phone. It has some really good hardware specifications and comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, at least according to the official spec sheet. However, it turns out that the Xperia Arc actually has Android 2.4, which is still called Gingerbread. It seems that Android 2.4 doesn’t add many features or improvements to Android 2.3, hence both share the same name. There is some performance improvement as well as better visual animations. It also has a noise reduction option and video calling features. This won’t be the first time that Google has launched two Android versions with the same name – Android 2.0 and 2.1 were both called Eclair. Before the launch of Android 3.0 Honeycomb – the tablet version of Android, we should see the launch of Android 2.4 Gingerbread. via Tweakers Share: Comment on This Post | Tweet This | Share on Facebook | Save to Delicious | Stumble This | Digg This | Reddit This TAGS: android 2.4, Arc, Gingerbread, Sony Ericsson, XPERIA Android 2.4 Peeps Out of a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc originally appeared on Techie Buzz written by Pathik Shah on Thursday 6th January 2011 10:49:15 AM under Mobile News.
