Lowe’s has marked their Christmas Decor 60% off. We went there last night and picked up 2 Disney lawn decorations. I’ve decided I want to have a Disney themed yard. Might take me a few years to get all the lawn decorations, but I will one day be one of those houses that make people’s mouth’s drop open.

Also keep your eyes peeled for mega packs of Energizer batteries. I got a 20 ct pack for $9.97, but it contained a $10/$50 coupon so if you are spending that much in Lowe’s, you could get them for free!

Groupon: Name A Star for just $9

    Posted: 23 Dec 2010 08:30 AM PST

Here is a GREAT last minute gift that you can print right from your computer.

The Groupon deal of the day for Mobile/Baldwin County, Alabama is $9 for a Star Naming from Name A Star Live (a $19.95 value). You can purchase one for you and as many as you need for gifts.

Like young children, most inanimate objects can freely self-identify but are too afraid to expose their shoddy cursive handwriting. Give the gift of universal identity with today’s Groupon: for $9, you get an instant gift set to name your own star, courtesy of Name A Star Live (a $19.95 value). Name A Star Live allows the name of a friend or loved one to become the classification of a faraway twinkling star. As in most pet adoptions, each proud parent is free to choose his or her own furry ball of plasma before a real rocket ship launches the official star certificate into the Earth’s orbit to mark the celestial occasion. The adopted star will have only one name, which is recorded in the database, and a star certificate—including the coordinates needed to spot the star in the sky—is instantly emailed to the honoree. Name A Star Live makes for a meaningful holiday gift for loved ones, homesick satellites, or retired space colonists.

Here’s how to get your Groupon:

    Go here to join Groupon
If you already have an account, go here to purchase your Groupon.
Then select Mobile/Baldwin County, Alabama under Visit More Cities.
    Purchase your Groupon.

Day 23 of No Dining Out December

      Posted: 23 Dec 2010 05:11 AM PST

Can you go an entire month without going out to eat? What about a week or a day? Can you cut your dining bill by 20%, 50% , 75% or more? That is what I challenge you to do!

At the end of the 30 days, I will choose one winner who will get $50 to spend however they choose!

      The rules:

      1. You must challenge yourself. Try to spend less than you spend now. If you don’t go out to eat at all, challenge yourself to try new meals this month. As long as you are challenging yourself when it comes to your family’s eating habits, you can participate!
      2. You must comment on at least 10 days worth of the discussion posts in order to be eligible to win the gift card.
      3. The winner will be chosen at random. It won’t matter if you have been 100% successful or not.
      4. You are allowed 1 freebie meal that you don’t have to count or report back to us about. Please report on everything else though so we can encourage and support one another!
      5. Free meals do not count against you. This is a challenge to spend less money going out to eat than you usually spend. If someone else is paying for the meal or you have a coupon to make it free, great!
      6. Here is a thought… consider keeping a tally of what you would of spent this month. For example, if you really want to go out for breakfast this morning and you resist… write that down! You could then donate that money to a food bank or deposit it into your fund!
      7. Be sure to check out our list of casserole recipes here and the crock pot recipes here and the under 6 ingredient recipes here.

      My progress:

No dining out for us yesterday. :)

      How are you doing?

11 days until we leave for Disney

      Posted: 22 Dec 2010 06:35 PM PST

From the WDW Countdown iPhone app

I can’t believe it’s just 11 days until we leave for Disney to celebrate our son’s short life and heal as a family. I can’t wait to see that welcome sign.

I am a planner. I made these awesome spreadsheets for the trip last May and a really awesome planning notebook for the first trip until it was stolen! But I have done NOTHING for this trip. So I thought I would let y’all experience the planning with me.

As it stands, we are leaving Birmingham on January 1st and driving most of the way to Disney World (we usually drive straight there but the hotel rooms are $$$$ that night). We will arrive to Disney World on January 2nd.

      January 2nd –

Jason will be doing his driving experience at Disney Speedway from 3 – 5 pm that day. My plan is to take the kids to Downtown Disney and hopefully meet up with some of my followers while we are there. Last time we met in front of Earl of Sandwich and the kids played in the fountain area. I think it’s going to be too cold for the fountains this time. Where would you meet up?

That night we are going to go to Hollywood Studios to see the Osborne Lights Spectacular. It is going to be busy but we are just going to go for the lights and maybe dinner.

They are having Fantasmic which we aren’t planning on seeing, so maybe we can see all the lights while others are seeing the show. What time do the lights turn on when Fantasmic is playing? Anyone know?

Where would you eat? We have only eaten at Pizza Planet and 50s Prime Time Cafe there.

      Park planning –

We are not having park hoppers this trip. We also want to do 3 days at Magic Kingdom and 1 day at each of the other parks. I am a huge fan of Touringplans.com. They tell you which parks is the best parks to go to on which days. They know their stuff! My secret to not standing in line is by following their guidelines.

      Trip Plan:

Even though we usually do the Magic Kingdom on our first full day in the parks, I really want to experience super low crowds on this trip. So I am trying to go where the crowds aren’t.

Monday – Epcot – Open 9 am to 9 pm

Tuesday -Magic Kingdom – Open 9 am to 8 pm

Wednesday – Magic Kingdom – Open 9 am to 8 pm

Thursday – Animal Kingdom – Open 9 am to 5 pm

Friday – Hollywood Studios – Open 9 am to 7 pm

Saturday – Magic Kingdom – Open 9 am to 9 pm plus Electrical Main Street Parade at 7 pm (we have not seen this yet!)

So what do you think? I’d love some input!

      Posted: 22 Dec 2010 04:59 PM PST

Going to the movies is a popular tradition that many people do over Christmas weekend. Here’s how to do it on the cheap:

Carmike Cinemas -  Show them the coupon on your phone and get a free candy when you buy a large Coke

They also have the new 2011 popcorn buckets for sale. I am not sure how much they are for the first purchase, but each refill is just $2.50!

Regal Cinemas – $2 small soft drink with popcorn purchase (valid 12/23 to 12/26)

Rave Motion Pictures – Join the email list and get a coupon for a free medium popcorn (will take about 15 minutes to receive and is good for 30 days)

      (Thanks Tanya!)
