Amino Acids in Meteorite from Asteroid 2008 TC3 Posted: 22 Dec 2010 09:10 PM PST On October 7, 2008 Asteroid 2008 TC3 entered Earth’s atmosphere, broke up before impact and scattered an area of the Nubian Desert of Sudan with meteorites. This was the first asteroid to hit Earth that was tracked and observed before it entered Earth’s atmosphere. Amino acids have been found in the meteorites. |

Posted: 22 Dec 2010 09:00 PM PST The amount of oil and natural gas being exported by the United States has been going up for the past few years. Imports have been down for the past few years. Some of this is related to the economy. But more LNG export projects are explored, there is a lot of discovered gas in the ground, energy efficiency is improving, renewable energy sources are growing… will the amount that we export continue to grow? |
Topographic Maps of the Moon – Best Ever Posted: 22 Dec 2010 06:13 AM PST Using data from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, NASA has produced new topographic maps of the moon which they say are: “the most precise and complete map to date of the moon’s complex, heavily cratered landscape.” The white rectangle on the image at right is shown below. Landslide Threat: Mandatory Evacuations Near Los Angeles Posted: 22 Dec 2010 05:55 AM PST Parts of Southern California have received over 12 inches of rain in the past few days. Areas where wildfires have burned off the vegetation are vulnerable to landslides. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered in the most vulnerable neighborhoods.
