Using an unconventional design for the time, the German model 24 grenade was used extensively during WWII. To trigger the device, the user would unscrew the cap on the bottom of the stick and pull on a ceramic bead attached to the end of a cord. The the cord would ignite a 5.5 second fuse positioned internally and then, of course, the grenade was thrown. The unique design allowed the model 24 grenade to be thrown further than other "pineapple" style in use at the time. Light fuse, run away!
